SPLC statement on Florida’s Voting Restoration Amendment

The Voting Restoration Amendment, which would restore voting rights to people with felony convictions upon completion of their sentences including probation, will be on Florida’s ballot in November.

The proposed amendment qualified for the ballot today, after reaching the more than 750,000 required signatures....

We all signed one and son handed them out at UWF.

The slimey scum-bag was in town today for a photo-op to "express appreciation for the Naples police department as well as the Collier County Sheriff's office." If he hadn't done that, he'd have had to pay for his own trip home for the weekend. Asshole. We're going to be in Orlando Sunday for the Pro Bowl - I hope nobody has invited him to make an appearance. Good opportunity to boo if he does, though.

The drunk idiot who tried to get his taco at a bank drive thru reminded me of a robbery at a bank that I did some work for. Seems the dumbass robber didn't consider that the teller in the lock type drive thru,
was behind a locked door
had an alarm button
was behind bullet proof glass
could drop below counter height if threatened
or that he was in a very restricted parking lot requiring a sharp U-turn before pulling into heavy traffic on a one way street near a busy intersection,
- he considered none of this -
when he pulled his gun on the teller.

His plan to just drive up, ask for all the money and drive away seems pretty damn stupid unit the moment the Florida Woman starts frantically filling the slide-out drawer with all her cash and the Florida Man robber went merrily on his way.

I'll save my other 2 bank robbery story for another day.

News of the Weird often shares Dumb Criminal stories that appear in the news....

Rhode Island police were sure they had the right man when the suspect charged with a string of vending-machine robberies paid his four-hundred-dollar bail entirely in quarters.

When his 38-caliber revolver failed to fire at its intended victim during a holdup in Long Beach, California, would be robber James Elliot did something that can only inspire wonder: He peered down the barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked.

STUDY YOUR HISTORY: Don't try to stick up the First National Bank of Northfield, Minnesota. Jesse James tried it 111 years ago, and the townsfolk took just seven minutes to kill two and capture three of his gang. Nobody tried again until 1984, and the customers chased the guy down. They're tight with their dollar, those Minnesotans.

The charismatic Swedish career criminal, Jan-Erik Olsson, 64 (whose 1973 bank robbery, and accompanying devotion by his hostages, originally inspired the term "Stockholm Syndrome"), tried to turn himself in to police in Helsenborg in May, but one officer apparently found him too likable and encouraged him to stay on the run. [TheLocal,se (Sweden), 5-5-06]

Admitted gang member Alex Fowler, 26, of Jasper, Texas, was arrested in July 2009 and charged with an attempted home-invasion robbery that went bad. Tough-guy Fowler, who has the words "Crip for Life" tattooed on his neck, was chased from the house by the 87-year-old female "victim" pointing a can of Raid insect repellant at him, threatening to spray. [Beaumont Enterprise, 7-20-09]

Ronnie Darnell Bell, 30, was arrested in Dallas in February 1998 and charged with attempting to rob the Federal Reserve Bank. (In the 1995 movie "Die Hard With a Vengeance," knocking off the New York Fed required a small army of men and truckloads of weapons.) According to police, Bell was initially confused because there are no tellers, and so handed a security guard his note, reading, "This is a bank robbery of the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank, of Dallas, Texas, give me all the money. Thank you, Ronnie Darnell Bell." The guard pushed a silent alarm while an oblivious Bell chatted amiably, revealing that only minutes earlier he had tried to rob a Postal Service office, but that, "They threw me out." [Dallas Morning News, 2-27-98]

Not Ready for Prime Time: Harold Luken, 45, was arrested on April 8 in New York City near a Bank of America after his attempt to rob it failed badly. According to police, Luken walked in at 1:50 p.m. and announced that he had a gun and intended to rob the place -- but then merely got in a line and said he would wait for a teller. When he finally got to the window (with police apparently on their way), Luken restated his intention and, as if narrating, announced the handing over of the robbery note. When the teller refused to respond, Luken asked to check the balance in his own account, but the teller again declined, provoking Luken to walk away and shout, "OK, I will go to Citibank (and) rob them instead!" He was arrested minutes later. [New York Post, 4-9-2011]

I read the article, and took no offense on behalf of any of my "home" states. It's pretty obvious it's a fluff article based on nothing but the author's sense of what he considers humor.

If you want to test the ratings, though, you can count Michigan license plates in Naples and count Florida plates in the yoopee and see what real travelers vote for.

It is funny, though, how certain aspects of a state, or certain locations in a state give it its national reputation without much regard for what the rest of the state is like.

Florida transplant, Medicare fraudster and voldemort impersonator made the news and trump's bff list by loudly demanding that the school shootings were the result of the fbi failing to work a report that the kid was dangerous and that the fbi director take full responsibility and step down immediately.

He neglected the 39 times the punk white supremacist trumpette had been reported to local cops in his own state.

There's a reason that nuclear powers put their missiles on nuclear submarines. By submerging, they're hidden and secure from attack.

This is why Trump shakes his pom-poms for coal, oil and climate change denial. To secure Mar-a-Lago by submerging it.
