Good news/kindness only (please) thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Well, the "miracle" people will always say God sent the divers, etc., or God held off the monsoons, or whatever, but it is really difficult to sustain an idea that God was primarily responsible for them getting out without admitting God must have been responsible (or negligent) in letting them get trapped.

Yep, why did god make it rain so hard on June 23 when the warning signs for the cave say the region's rainy season danger period is "July until November"?

And as your old buddy would say, thank the Lord for answering prayer.
You sure have become religious since Mr.B "left".

Mysterious only to those who try to make human-level sense/rationale out of it.

Actually I hadn't given Mr. B any thought until you brought up his name in the religion thread; then I remembered how great friends you two were; what with him condemning you to hell fire and brimstone. I can't say his religion rubbed off on me though; no more than your narcissism has.

Evidently, you think you're still being stalked by your old pal, hence the "left" ?
Mr.B! ----- Mr.B! Are you out there somewhere, Mr.B? Give us a sign. Send us a :P if you are, send us a :oII if you aren't. Inquiring minds want to know!

Good point. So much of our society today can't make human-level sense/rationale out of counting change back from a cash register.

That's true, but that's also more a matter of education/practice than anything else. But expecting the creator of the universe to think and act like humans - just one tiny part of all creation - is downgrading (disrespecting) the creator of the universe and severely upgrading the status of humans to god-like level.

Good argument there, considering the Bible says God created man in His own image, whereas the naysayers say man created God in his own image. How would we be disrespecting the Creator if we don't know what He looks or acts like?
In response to Vrede's comment about my suddenly gaining religion; I believe there's a Omnipotent Creator, but not necessarily the Biblical account of His Personage and the creation. Mr. B once stated the best response to this that I can ever recall seeing, but that's another thread.

Ah, and therein lies the rub. "The Bible" doesn't say anything other than what its human authors wrote. One can say that the original writers were "inspired" by the creator of the universe, or that they were "spoken to" or that they received a "message" but one cannot say that biblical writings - and especially the English versions - were not filtered through the human perception and intellectual limitations of the authors/translators. Point being, an all-powerful entity, creator of the universe, isn't going to "look like" or "act like" anything human-like. Or maybe it looks/acts like everything in the universe.

That depends on what "in his image" means, doesn't it? If the magical sky fairy exists, was that just physical image or was it a metaphor also including emotions, thought processes, etc.?

There just might be something to that 'magical sky fairy' handle. If a 'magical sky fairy' created life, would that account for the numbers of 'earthly fairies' marching in rainbow parades? Are they called 'earth fairies?'  (where's homofobe when you need him?)

"Sky fairies" are a human invention, also. Actually "sky" is a human-only concept. But if you want to get some insight into how humans create other beings, look what they do for interplanetary aliens. Sure, they have big eyes, or maybe only one eye, and they have funny hands and out of proportion bodies, but they're still fundamentally humanoids. Even the Star Wars creators, who are maybe the best there is at creating aliens, can't seem to create anything that doesn't have humanish characteristics. Even Jabba the Hutt. So if humans are sitting around wondering about things they don't understand and start thinking there's a great being of some sort, how are they likely to imagine that being?

Never cared much for it, for some reason. But it looks like most of their extra-terrestrials were more humanoid than not.

Why do you always make so much good sense! I never thought too much of that angle, but that makes good sense. If we don't know what God looks like, how do we know aliens don't look like us? I'll agree that "Sky fairies" are a human invention, invented by non-believers. I said before, I'm a believer, but not so much in the total Biblical account of creation. There's just too many complicated and highly intelligent features of living organisms to credit to simple evolution, although I believe that Creation and evolution had a hand in man's rise to where he is today. Star Wars? Loved 'em all!

Definitely more humanoid than not (Kinda hard for them to recur when they are crystalline or an outer space whale). 😜. Usually part of the "seek out new life forms" episodes.
