Education thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Bold move by Perry in trying to be a worse Cabinet member than DeVos and Carson.
Stiff competition, though.
Betsy DeVos Hired Candice Jackson, Who Once Called Trump's Sexual Assault Accusers "Fake Victims"
Jackson has a number of troubling stances.

Raising concerns about how the federal government will continue to handle campus sexual assault and other civil rights issues, the U.S. Department of Education this week appointed a new acting secretary for civil rights who has spoken out against feminism, criticized programs designed to assist people of color, and dismissed those who have accused Donald Trump of sexual violence as “fake victims.”

Candice Jackson is the new deputy assistant secretary and acting assistant secretary of the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR), which oversees Title IX and sexual assault on campus. She can serve in the role — overseeing one of the department’s most important and high-profile offices — without confirmation for 210 days. Sexual assault survivors and civil rights advocates worry that Jackson will have plenty of time to have a serious impact on how the Trump administration handles civil rights cases in schools and on college campuses....
Betsy DeVos: If States Discriminate Against LGBTQ Students, It’s Cool By Me
Trump’s education secretary apparently sees no problem with giving federal money to schools that reject queer kids.

Public schools are for everyone and are supported by everyone for the betterment of everyone.

If you don't like public schools for whatever reason then go to private, church, or clown school. Go wherever you want and learn whatever you want, but pay for it yourself.

The petition to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos reads:

“The Secretary of Education must stand with survivors of campus sexual assault. Candice Jackson’s statement about sexual violence survivors perpetuates victim blaming and rape culture. Immediately fire Candice Jackson and publicly commit to protecting all students from discrimination, hate and violence by preserving and enforcing Title IX.”

I keep hearing that this or that ignorance will die off. Bill Nye recently stated this about climate deniers; we have all hoped it would happen with racism and other baseless phobias and many take some solace in knowing that the likes of homerphobe and his hate will soon die.

Then there's this

(from wiki)

"Contemporary advocates for such religious beliefs include Robert Sungenis (president of Bellarmine Theological Forum and author of the 2006 book Galileo Was Wrong).

These people subscribe to the view that a plain reading of the Bible contains an accurate account of the manner in which the universe was created and requires a geocentric worldview.

Morris Berman quotes a 2006 survey that show currently some 20% of the U.S. population believe that the sun goes around the Earth (geocentricism) rather than the Earth goes around the sun (heliocentricism), while a further 9% claimed not to know.[57]"

And these idiots are demanding and receiving our tax dollars to pass this bullshit on to the next generation. Something is very wrong here.

20%!, 20% is an insane number of people to be hanging onto something this outdated. No wonder they voted for a cheeto.

Just for fun

We've all seen the debate over reichwingers speaking on campuses.
Is hate speech acceptable?
Is the principle of free speech an absolute?
Are reichwingers manipulating the conversation so that their Nazi/KKK ilk gets seen as victims?

Anyhow, it's worth noting that lefties also get dis-invited or withdraw in the face of protests from speaking at con schools, including:

John Corvino - Providence College, Aquinas College
Rep. Robert Hagan- Mercy College: St. Elizabeth Campus
Victoria Reggie Kennedy - Anna Maria College
Anna Quindlen - Villanova University
William Ayers - University of Wyoming, Boston College, University of Nebraska
Hillary Clinton - Jeremiah Wright, Northwestern University
Al Franken - St. Catherine University
Archbishop Desmond Tutu - University of St. Thomas
Ward Churchill - Antioch College, Wheaton College, Eastern Washington University, Hamilton College
Susan Rosenberg - Hamilton College
Nancy Snyderman - University of Saint Francis

https://www.thefire.org/list-of-campus- ... 2000-2014/
These and other lefties were also kept away from non-con schools.

Then, we have no way of knowing how many lefties were never invited and never will be.

Yeah this is a popular trope amongst these guys. They harp about the "NAP" - Non agression principal. Richard Spencer yells about this all the time in the most cringeworthy manner when he and his pals walk around at their demonstrations. It's just another meme latched onto by many alt-righters. Go browse some of their internet hangouts and you'll see. If you spend a lot of time on those forums (4chan and others. They are vile places I do not recommend) you can almost predict what they're gonna say and do. It's really lame but true.

I didn't come up with it. I think it's described in detail in this article, but it might have been one of the other ones that you or others have posted. Supposedly, the original Nazis did the same thing.

One of the arguments I heard during the election was "Hillary Clinton has blood on her hands. Donald Trump has killed nobody" thereby making Hillary out to be an aggressor. Also, Hillary was going to bring us to war with Russia, starting WWIII, since she maintained an antogonistic stance towards them. Also, Donald Trump was bullied during the debates.

I'm seeing a lot of trumpettes saying that Hillary would have already started a war, so Donald is keeping us safe and hasn't started a war.

An idea, not necessarily a good one - stay outside, find a TV camera, burn your tickets.
