New York's Trinity Church forced to cancel Halloween fest over Occupy Wall Street camp

"A majority of those in the encampment appear to be homeless people who are resisting placement and have seemingly attached themselves to the Occupy movement, Hanick said."

If you can't lick 'em, join 'em. They only joined in because they thought they were in the right place to join in the mooching.

\V/, if the Church was celebrating Christmas would the situation change? The obvious answer is no and therein lies the problem with the OWS movement that you support and defend. The original intent of OWS has been lost to what is happening to this church and has become a haven for the irresponsible.

\V/, November 5, 2012 global protest? Interesting date! Surely you do not believe a global protest by the likes of OWS will influence the next day's events.

OWS is like the aging athlete that keeps hanging on because he cannot accept that his popularity has faded.

Wonder how many of those homeless are mentally unable to care for themselves. Some could even be our soldiers that we are always saying great things about until they come home.

Is Occupy Wall Street Outperforming the Red Cross in Hurricane Relief?
On Saturday, Ethan Murphy, one of the people heading the kitchen operation, estimated they would prepare and send out 10,000 meals to people in need. Thousands and thousands of pounds of clothes were being sorted, labeled, and distributed, and valuable supplies like heaters and generators were being loaded up in cars to be taken out to the Rockaways, Staten Island and other places in need. However, this well-oiled operation wasn’t organized by the Red Cross, New York Cares, or some other well-established volunteer group. This massive effort was the handiwork of none other than Occupy Wall Street—the effort is known as Occupy Sandy.

Money happened. :-( ... and it's not like the cons were going to support investigations into the practices and results of operations of large banks.

From Occupy SEC, an offshoot of OWS:
Occupy the SEC files suit against Volcker Rule implementation
Published on March 4, 2013 by Alexandra Villarreal
Occupy the SEC, an offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street Movement, recently filed suit against several federal regulators as part of an effort to expedite the implementation of the Volcker Rule ban on proprietary trading.

Eric Taylor and Kristine Ekman, the plaintiffs, are members of Occupy the SEC. Taylor, who holds an insured deposit account with JPMorgan Chase, and Ekman, who holds an insured deposit account with Wells Fargo, said that their deposits are at risk because “banks can continue to speculate with it as long as the Volcker Rule has not been implemented,” Wall Street on Parade reports.

“Plaintiffs suffer the risk of irreparable injury to their deposits by reason of [regulators’] non-action,” the suit against the Federal Reserve, FDIC, SEC, CFTC, OCC and U.S. Treasury said. “The plaintiffs’ bank accounts are subject to potential dissipation or liquidation resulting from bank losses occasioned by excessively risky trading activities by those banks. The Volcker Rule would institute structural safeguards insulating depository accounts from banks’ proprietary trading activities, thereby protecting plaintiffs’ bank accounts. Defendants’ unjustified delay in finalizing the Volcker Rule puts plaintiffs’ bank accounts at continued risk of financial loss.”

The government is the defendant here. Go OSEC.

Shhhhhh! It's a secret.
The Government Still Doesn't Want You to Know What Caused the Financial Crisis
—By Erika Eichelberger| Wed Mar. 6, 2013 9:19 AM PST

In the aftermath of the 2008 financial meltdown, the US government launched a vast investigation, but it still doesn't want you to know the details of what it found.

In January 2011, the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission (FCIC) created by Congress put out its final report. But it only released a portion of all the source documents it scoured, so last year the government accountability group Cause of Action filed a lawsuit seeking the release of those documents, including emails, memoranda, and draft reports. Last week, the DC district court announced it was dismissing the case. But it's not over yet: COA vowed on Tuesday that it will appeal the decision. In a statement, the group said the judge's ruling that the documents were not subject to the Freedom of Information Act was "a misapplication of the law," and said that "COA will continue to fight to shed light on the workings of our government."
