I agree that the entries into Vietnam and Afghanistan were quite different. However, I think the lack of exits are similar.

How so? LBJ does stay the course after the election, but we now know that he was about to announce the end. Nixon restarted it. Actually, as a private citizen, he committed a crime (or treason) by convincing the south's puppet government to refuse peace and promising to escalate the war if elected.

I'm seeing a pattern of repugs following Nixon's lead.

The private citizens, who would become the reagan administration, conspired to keep the hostages in iran.

The private citizens, who would become the lil Bush administration, were warned by the Clinton administration about osama

The private citizens, who would become the trump administration, conspired with the Russians and the Israelis and the Saudis and probably a few others to maintain and start more wars

Yet nothing compares to what they did while in office.

We agree that Repugs suck, but Obama's escalation of Afghanistan then inability to leave would seem to be due to imperialistic ignorance and/or fear that he and the Dems would be seen as "weak". That feels like Vietnam to me.

I agree, but only in those rare moments when I see Obama as a dem. The war, and him immediately announcing that raising taxes on the rich isn't good during a recession, has me pretty well convinced of his repug Manchurian President status.
But really only in the sense that almost the entire dem party has shifted way right of FDR and the 94% income tax that cured what ailed us.

It's the middle class built by FDR's work that was dying when Obama signed the Bush tax cuts into foreverland

On October 7 our occupation surpassed 17 years. :( Some of our occupiers were in diapers when we first invaded the Graveyard of Empires. All they have ever known is war there.

Add an additional 20 or so years fighting the soviets.

Sloppy grammar on my part. I meant that OUR 18-year-olds have only ever known war in Afghanistan. Before us the Afghans had civil war, the Soviet occupation with "covert" US intervention, more civil war and Taliban domination of much of the country.

Trump admin revokes visa of International Criminal Court prosecutor pursuing Afghan war crimes

The Trump administration revoked the visa of International Criminal Court chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda following her inquiry into possible war crimes committed by U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

Bensouda’s office confirmed the revocation in a statement on Friday, in which the office also emphasized that the chief prosecutor "has an independent and impartial mandate under the Rome statute,” ICC’s founding treaty, The Associated Press reports.

"The Prosecutor and her office will continue to undertake that statutory duty with utmost commitment and professionalism, without fear or favor," the statement added.

The U.S. State Department also confirmed the revocation in a statement to the news agency on Friday, which also said that "the United States will take the necessary steps to protect its sovereignty and to protect our people from unjust investigation and prosecution by the International Criminal Court.”

Last month, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned that the U.S. would restrict visas of any ICC staffers who investigate actions by U.S. military personnel over the court’s proposed inquiry into alleged U.S. war crimes in Afghanistan.

“I am announcing a policy of U.S. visa restrictions on those individuals directly responsible for any ICC investigation of U.S. personnel,” Pompeo said in remarks at the State Department then.

“This includes persons who take or have taken action to request or further such an investigation. These visa restrictions may also be used to deter ICC efforts to pursue allied personnel, including Israelis, without allies' consent,” he added.

At the time, Pompeo declined to provide details on how many visas could be affected under the new policy but described the restrictions as “part of a continued effort to convince the ICC to change course with its potential investigation and potential prosecution of Americans.”

“If you’re responsible for the proposed ICC investigation of U.S. personnel in connection with the situation in Afghanistan, you should not assume that you will still have or will get a visa or that you will be permitted to enter the United States,” Pompeo said.
 Not even a pretense of a national security excuse, blatant obstruction of justice. Not even justice, the US was never going to allow a citizen to be tried. This is obstruction of knowledge and truth. :angry-cussing:

No different than the hundreds of war crimes covered up in Viet Nam, central America and pretty much everywhere else we felt superior over the last 150 years.

Now as then, if no one knows it didn't happen.

No. However, the CIA's use of a fake vaccine program to find him has ensured the ongoing deaths of thousands or tens of thousands of the children of newly distrustful parents, all in order to get a single old, isolated, impotent terrorist.

Got it. Pay for innocent orphaned children with many, many times more innocent sick and dead children. You are more of an ovine fan of Obama than I am. Too bad that Shrub screwed up so badly, it never would have been left to Obama to handle.
