Guns, race, religion, terror, wingnut thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Bizarre, I get http://start.att.net/

Happens sometimes, not too often, with other Yahoo! links. Must be some glitch since I'm registered there through AT&T. What's the full headline? I can google it.

His parents address please. There is a possibility they don't what what they raised.

I'll bet that they do now. We'll see if there's a repudiation like the one described at the bottom of page 79.

Ex-KKK Leader David Duke Has Meltdown After Trump Condemns White Supremacists In Charlottesville

I heckled David Duke back in about 1980, the only speaker I’ve ever heckled. I’m still proud of it. I’m not sure that Duke’s whining is news, though. By definition, racists are moronic crybabies that can’t face their own inadequacies.

Guilty, I guess. Who have you heckled?

I haven't gone out of my way to go to speeches by creeps, it's depressing. Also, the places where I've lived haven't invited that many to speak. I was particularly offended by Duke's speech because the U. I was attending paid him to come. So, it was my money.

I have made some pols uncomfortable with non-heckling questions and comments, though. One of my favorites, from the 1980s: I asked my Dem US Senator if he was going to get arrested outside of the South African Embassy like so many other congresspersons had. His wishy-washy answer included saying that no Senators had done so. I replied, "One has, Lowell Weicker, a Republican." The room cracked up.

Not many, really, for some of the same reasons you mentioned - not wanting to go to the speech, not wanting to increase crowd size, etc. Truth be, heckling is probably more satisfying to the heckler than bothersome to the hecklee.

That same thinking is one of my hesitations, along with doubts about the use of violence, about opposing nazi gatherings. They gather because they want opposition. However, things changed Saturday and the nazis were the clear losers in the public's eye. I may not be so hesitant next time.

Yup. The plan was to "unite the right."

- The alt-right revealed themselves to even to those most in denial, as Nazis.
- Their web sites have lost their hosting.
- Crowd-funding sites have dropped them.
- That Confederate statue in North Carolina was torn down.
- Many on the right will no longer tolerate them.
- Even Trump - finally - has disowned them.

Not the "win" they were hoping for. I think we just reached peak alt-right. The Joseph McCarthy "At long last, have you left no sense of decency?" moment for Trump/Bannon/Gorka.

The question is, will the remaining adults in the Republican party, the non-Trump/Palin/Cruz traditional Republicans, seize the moment and return the party to conservatism?
Spoiler:
No.

Also:

- They got their asses kicked, not counting the terrorist driver.
- Airbnb rejected them.
- Some have already lost their jobs and families, even more will be outed.
- U.S. cities step up removal of Confederate statues, despite Virginia violence
- Jacksonville reassesses Confederate monuments in Charlottesville's aftermath
- Their idol Dolt .45's wimpy and slow response hurt him. Bannon, Gorka and Miller are on the hot seat, too.

Call it the Battle of Charlottesville.

I hope "we just reached peak alt-right", but I'm not as certain as you. They might be encouraged to hold more gatherings so they don't look weak, and they might be more violent (gunfire) with the Antifas. Frustrated and impotent individuals and small groups might step up hate crimes and terrorism. We'll see.

We need to ALL stand against Nazis. Share far and wide; let's run this Nazi out of town. For real.
"Love" . If I lived in Mount Holly his house and business would be surrounded with rainbow flags in the morning. I feel bad for anyone besides him that depends on his business.

Maybe not a first choice, but probably eventually the only productive alternative. These are not normal people who might listen to reason. These are not ideas or ideals that can be accepted as just another political opinion that "everyone is entitled to." No, they're not entitled to those, and they should be run out of every community until they have nowhere to go except under some rock in Idaho.

If you're sure that it helps the cause of defeating them in the long term and making us a better society, I'm good with that. Eyes on the prize.

Obama's Response To Charlottesville Violence Becomes Third Most Liked Tweet In History

Doesn't say what the top 2 tweets are.
... The most-liked tweet of all time was from singer Ariana Grande earlier this year -- saying "broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words." -- after a deadly attack at her Manchester concert.

That tweet dethroned the popular photo tweet from the 2014 Oscars ceremony by actress Ellen DeGeneres....

Love wins Twitter.
