Idiot box thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Wasn't blown away tonight. I like this guy, even though I'm not a big fan of the genre:

Colin Cloud: Mind Reader Amazes Mel B and Howie Mandel - America's Got Talent 2017

Advanced. Then, there was a Salsa Dance Duo and 5!?! singing acts. 4 solos that are fine and twins that also dance, neither very well. Grrr.

Not so good Tuesday, lame fire, plates cool but rough start. They didn't even show the whole thing, didn't advance.

Use full screen:

Tony and Jordan: Identical Twins Dazzle With Magic - America's Got Talent 2017

Maybe my favorite of the night:

Daniel Ferguson: Impressionist Sings Maroon 5 Song As Several Characters - America's Got Talent 2017

Neither advanced, they didn't show enough to bother linking. :(
This guy's good:

Mike Young: The Viral Subway Singer Pours His SOUL out On Stage | America's Got Talent 2017

Advanced.

I'm okay with this guy not advancing, but it was fun hearing that Joe Cocker growl:

Herbie Russ: This Guy SHOCKS The Audience With Amazing Talent | America's Got Talent 2017

These folks are exciting:

Diavolo: Unique Dance Group Have Bodies and Props FLYING All Over! | America's Got Talent 2017

I liked their audition even more:

Diavolo: Danger & Acrobatic Group DEFY Human Nature | Auditions 2 | America’s Got Talent 2017

Advanced.

My favorite of the night:

Billy & Emily England: Skaters Push Boundaries In Scary Skate Act - America's Got Talent 2017‬

Wow. Advanced.

Also advanced: a 9 year old singer (Golden Buzzer), a large dance crew, a very large dancer and a comic. Spreadsheet

There are lots of lists of list of greatest TV shows of all time. Which would make your list?

Here's what I came up with before looking at other lists:
Spoiler:
Notes:
* I'm too cheap for more than basic cable, so can't opine on shows like Mad Men and Game of Thrones.
* I have no objective standard here, just what I liked.
* Not listed in any particular order.

Fiction:
I Love Lucy
M*A*S*H
The West Wing
NCIS
Star Trek (original)
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Hill Street Blues
NYPD Blue
All in the Family
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (original, Las Vegas)

Nonfiction:
The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson
America’s Funniest Videos
Saturday Night Live
60 Minutes
The Civil War (Ken Burns)
Blue Planet
Here's one online list, selected only because it's the first I googled:
Spoiler:
59. 'Hill Street Blues'
42. 'NYPD Blue'
32. 'I Love Lucy'
30. 'The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson'
18. 'Star Trek' (original)
16. 'M*A*S*H'
15. 'The West Wing'
10. 'The Daily Show' (loved it, good to see it so highly ranked)
9. 'All in the Family'
8. 'Saturday Night Live'
7. 'The Twilight Zone' (opps, should have been on my list)
6. 'The Simpsons' (thought about putting it on my list)
5. 'Seinfeld' (I'm okay with that)
1 through 4 are not ones that I saw much of.

I'd put PBS's NOVA near the top. For my generation I'd replace I Love Lucy with Barney Miller and Night Court.

Of course, both lists are specific to American TV. Include Britain and it would include Top Gear, Time Team, Monty Python, Horizon (some episode are repackaged for NOVA), Yes, Minister and more. Include Australia and Mythbusters would be near the top.

Yes! Maybe Frontline, too.

Never got into it.

and Night Court.

Loved it!

Monty Python should at least make the top 100.

Horizon (some episode are repackaged for NOVA), Yes, Minister and more.

Rolling Stone names some UK shows including both the US and UK versions of The Office on their list. I was not a fan of the US version.

Include Australia and Mythbusters would be near the top.

Loved it! The Crocodile Hunter, too, though that was a US Animal Planet show.

Colbert was to be his first interview, but, news flash, he lied to Colbert. May Colbert rip him apart.

I can't wait, but I'll have to catch it on youtube tomorrow when he releases it. I've been waiting on Colbert's take on all the racism over the weekend as well.

Rats, I missed it.
I saw him on This Week with George. Could be my perspective, or wishful thinking, but I thought he made it pretty clear that Trump is an idiot.
Must remember to watch the Colbert interview tomorrow.

Colbert grilled him - somewhat rudely, not that I'm complaining - Scaramucci didn't get fazed and responded more or less competently. Wasn't very informative and wasn't as entertaining as I'd hoped.

Otoh, I switched over to Fallon during an ad. He asked Susan Sarandon, "Do you think your activism hurt your career at times?"

She replied, "That's like worrying about whether your slip is showing as you're running out of a burning building."

Brilliant, I shouldn't have gone back to Scaramucci and Colbert.

My favorite of the night, use full screen:

Just Jerk: Dance Crew Delivers Stunning Performance - America's Got Talent 2017

Advanced. I wrote down 'Like a single organism or machine' just before Simon compared them to a machine. Could win it all?
Just Jerk: Korean Dance Group SHOCKS AMERICA!! on America's Got Talent 2017

Still good, I liked the first one more. These kids are fun and really good:

Artyon & Paige: America's Cutest Dancers EXPLODE On Stage at The Live Shows!

Bello Nock: Simon Gives Daredevil a Second Chance and He SMASHES It!! America's Got Talent 2017

Excellent, and it’s a different daredevil routine each time.

Billy & Emily England: Skaters Push Boundaries In Scary Skate Act - America's Got Talent 2017

Wow. Advanced.
Was wondering how these folks would step it up, it’s such a small space with seemingly few options.

Billy & Emily England: Skaters Deliver Death-Defying Performance - America's Got Talent 2017

They stepped it up! If they keep advancing I predict she goes airborne somehow.

Darci Lynne: 12-Year-Old Singing Ventriloquist Gets Golden Buzzer - America's Got Talent 2017

:o    I think she would have advanced if she just sang normally. Prediction: duet with Terry Fator before the season's over.

Darci Lynne's New Singing Puppet Has a Romantic CRUSH on Mel B | America's Got Talent 2017

Good joke, well delivered. Wow, each new note blew me away. And, completely different from the first show, in a mouse voice! Maybe an impression of a real singer sometime? She could win it all.

Billy & Emily England: Skaters Deliver Death-Defying Performance Advanced.

Darci Lynne: 12-Year-Old Singing Ventriloquist Advanced.
So-so, at least my 2 favs of the night stayed in.

  And I'm biased against solo singers, not in general just on AGT. Now I'm up to 3 that I like :shh: . Angelica Hale advanced, Mandy Harvey got the Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell straight through to the live show.
Great again.

Mandy Harvey: She's DEAF but an UNBELIEVABLE Singer Artist! America's Got Talent 2017

Best singer to me, maybe best act of the night:

Evie Clair: Her Dad is Missing but She Delivers TOUCHING Performance | America's Got Talent 2017

My other favorite:

The Pompeyo Family: Dog Act Turns Stage Into Wildlife Paradise | America's Got Talent 2017

All 3 acts advanced to the semis.

Also, 2 more singers, a gospel choir and a mentalist.

I don't think Sara Carson & Hero will win it all, not enough room for growth and variability, but Diavolo or Kechi could take it.

American Horror Story: Cult

Premiered tonight, whoa. Dolt .45's election, 4chan, creepy Trumpettes, insane (or is she?) lesbian, racism, scary murderous clowns - what's not to like?

Good AGT night. I'm not a huge magic fan, but:

Eric Jones: Magician Amazes Audiences With Coin Tricks - America's Got Talent 2017

I'm not a huge gospel choir fan (yeah, I'm genre-bending, nttawwt), but:

Greater Works: Gospel Choir Fills The Room With SPIRIT & EMOTION! | America's Got Talent 2017

Spoiler:
Pretty cool that they did Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing".

Sara & Hero: An EPIC Rescue Dog Act....Then The Dogs Go Off-Script | America's Got Talent 2017

Doubt they'll win it all, but still impressive.

I think another past favorite of mine, 13 year old singer Evie Clair, may have peaked, not sure she'll advance.
