Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

As has been discussed in multiple posts and links above, the danger is not past from Matthew. It's coming right back at you:

Also, there never was a danger to you from Nicole, as was also discussed above and your own link even makes clear.

I don't think that they have a clue about nicole. Models show it going in every direction, some due south with a turn in 2 days due north.

Matthew could get to seth if it comes across florida. I remember all the talkers saying that Wilma was over after SW fla landfall.

Nobody listeed but I kept saying that the warn everglades could cause it to strengthen - I was right. Matthew could be the same in reverse. If it passes to the south of Florida seth will be fine

There is variability with Nicole predictions, but not a single model shows it reaching FL. We'll see.

Thanks, 2005's Hurricane Wilma gets forgotten (except in S. FL) thanks to Rita and Katrina that same year. I had to look it up.

All of this is interesting:

Hurricane Matthew Spares Florida Major Winds; Dangerous Storm Surge and Rains Arrive

I was particularly struck by:
Long range forecast for Matthew: a loop-de-loop

Our top two hurricane track models—the GFS and European—continue to show high pressure building in to the north of Matthew this weekend, blocking the hurricane’s forward path. Matthew is expected to loop back towards the south and southwest, potentially reaching The Bahamas by Tuesday. Along the way, though, Matthew may draw close enough to Hurricane Nicole to force the two storms to rotate around a common center—something known as the Fujiwhara effect. This behavior can occur when two storms get within 800 miles of each other. This potential interaction with Nicole on Sunday and Monday makes the 3 - 5 day forecast for Matthew’s track of higher uncertainty than usual-though if anything, it is most likely to reinforce the expected northward track of Nicole and southward track of Matthew....

2005 was a VERY strange hurricane season. The XKCD webcomic wonderfully documents it with actual NHC advisories.

:D They've given up on predicting whether Matthew will go north or south:

I'm off in the a.m. to Goldsboro, NC to do Matthew flooding relief work for at least a week. Not sure what my web access and free time situation will be.

You're welcome & thanks. I should be fine, I don't do search and rescue. Likely an already established shelter for mostly hospice patients - sucks to be uprooted at the end of life :( - but that could change.

We just got told to stand down:

"I guess some of the staff was able to stay, and some of the other positions were covered by folks geographically closer.

We're asked to remain on standby through the week. As the waters continue to rise, they're expecting multiple additional deployments through the week."

Not a fun trip in best of times. Except for King's, if it's still there. Take care.

Thanks all, 5 days or more, I'll try to check in.

Good thing I'm not going to Everglades City. There's no internet there.

Weird that NC got the worst of Matthew. No one was predicting that.

Awaiting directions around the flooding, then I'm out the door. Looked on the state site - seems that every road in Lenoir County is closed.
