Presidents* Trump & Putin bromance

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Maybe celebrities should just run for president for now on.

Election 2024:
- (D) Oprah Winfrey vs. (R) Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty

Almost two years ago I was sitting on top of a sand dune in Colorado joking with this Australian couple about Donald Trump running for office, and laughing at how far fetched that was.

Oh :(

Some of those on the list above, I could certainly vote for ahead of the Republican clown car. The Boss and Tommy Lee Jones, probably, although I still think there's something wrong with grown men who call themselves names like "Tommy Lee". And numerous others on that list would be preferable to Trump, including Jessica Simpson.

If Arnold can be Gov., Linda Hamilton, who kicked Arnold's ass, should be able to be POTUS.

I could see myself theoretically voting for The Boss or Ellen DeGeneres, depending on the competition.

Linda Hamilton in T-2 was one of the sexiest women everrrr!
And without regard for whether I agreed on their policies, both Ahnuld and The Body did more credible jobs than might have been expected.
But if we're going to keep letting amateurs be President, I'd go for Mark Cuban or Bill Gates.

Like they said about Obama, billionaire (maybe) Trump has not represented his "kind" very well.

Being wealthy certainly shouldn't be considered disqualifying for President. There are many examples of wealthy people who have governed well and on behalf of everybody. There are many examples of wealthy people who have worked hard to improve the lot of the disadvantaged. Rich and poor can have character strengths and weaknesses that make them good for or unsuitable for leadership. For example, a poor version of Trump would still be a hot mess.

Agreed, I was just making the quip.

For me, never having held office almost always disqualifies for POTUS, Senate, Gov. and usually the House.

I would support legal minimum qualifications for office. Wouldn't be different in principle than the current age/residence type requirements. One requirement would be to have held public office at some level before getting the House or other federal jobs. I'd require some legislative experience before being governor, too.

we have one of those in florida, but he is doing great at destroying lives and jobs as he was elected to do.

The revelations are coming so fast that it's hard to keep up, and there's not much point in posting about each one. However, this one could be yuuuge if it's true:

Trump asked two intel chiefs to deny Russia collusion: report

That would make at least 3 agencies that Dolt .45 tried to get to obstruct justice in one way or another. It wouldn't be just Comey's word anymore.
... In the newest report suggesting the White House sought to tamp down the Russia probe, the Post said Trump urged National Security Agency chief Michael Rogers and to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats to publicly deny any evidence of collusion between his campaign and Russia during last year's presidential election.

Citing current and former intelligence officials, the Post said both Rogers and Coats, who was appointed by Trump, did not comply with his request....
Heroes.

It's not exactly "just Comey's word" now, either. The Trumpers are trying to portray Comey's report as a he said/he said type of issue, essentially claiming "no proof." They're trying to hide the fact that contemporaneous notes carry substantially more weight than recollection, and that contemporaneous notes/reports of an FBI agent are admissible in court. Of course, and FBI agent could "document" a totally fabricated story (and some probably have), but such a report is presumed accurate and proving it false would be the burden of the accused.

Agreed, I didn't mean just his testimony, but he is still just one person and whatever he says or has written may in effect now be corroborated by Rogers and Coats.
