Presidents* Trump & Putin bromance

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Probable cause:

FBI agents searched former Trump campaign chair's (Manafort) home

Found:
Time to start planning the construction of a Trump Tower at the Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary so all of the lying hyenas and traitors in Comrade Trumpsky's administration will have suitable accommodations.

Or Rikers Island, not that "President* Trump" and "library" belong in the same sentence.

Since news of the FBI search of Manafort's home was delayed, this connection flew under the radar:

Trump called for acting FBI director’s firing hours after FBI agents raided Paul Manafort’s home
An incriminating fact-pattern emerges.

Also, why was the news delayed? I get that the FBI doesn't necessarily publicize such things, but an innocent man would have been instantly screaming bloody murder.

Could very well be, or it may just be that he's like uber-rich Mnuchin trying to get us to pay for his honeymoon flight. Being scamming sleazeballs always trying to line their own pockets and get others to pay the costs without any consideration of morality, justice or personal responsibility is in their bones.

It's how they get rich and stay rich. With few exceptions, decent, honest people don't get rich.

Finally!
Sessions: U.S. not doing enough to stop future election interference

Attorney General Jeff Sessions conceded Wednesday that the U.S. government is not doing enough to prevent future interference in elections by Russia and other foreign adversaries.

“We’re not,” Sessions said, when asked by Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., if the government is taking adequate action to prevent meddling in its elections. “The matter is so complex that for most of us we’re not able to fully grasp the technical dangers that are out there.”

Sessions said he accepts the U.S. intelligence community’s findings that Russia interfered with the 2016 election and may attempt to do so again....
Of course, he lied to Congress about his own Russian contacts and will never, ever concede that Trumpettes were useful idiots for Putin.

Also:

- Uranium One was a Canadian company, and the deal was done in the Canadian stock market.

- The 20 percent is production capacity, not uranium in stock. (It's about 0.5% of the global supply.)

- The company has no license to export uranium. So exactly 0.00% was "given to Russia."

- The deal was more likely about Uranium One’s assets in Kazakhstan, the world’s largest uranium producer.
Seems there's more to the accusations than we thought.

Not really:
In 2011, the administration gave approval for Rosatom’s Tenex subsidiary to sell commercial uranium to U.S. nuclear power plants in a partnership with the United States Enrichment Corp. Before then, Tenex had been limited to selling U.S. nuclear power plants reprocessed uranium recovered from dismantled Soviet nuclear weapons under the 1990s Megatons to Megawatts peace program.
- It's about kickbacks in a different deal, not the one involving Uranium One.

- Not only did the Uranium One deal NOT involve giving Russia control of American uranium or sending American uranium to Russia, but the Tenex deal does the exact opposite.

- Given that the article repeats the "more than 20 percent of America’s uranium supply" myth, I don't have much faith in the rest of it. There seems to be considerable spin in the story.

I'm reminded of a corruption tale from Canada's uranium industry. If I recall correctly...

- Eldorado Mining and Refining was a private mining company before WWII.
- Which started supplying uranium to the Manhattan Project.
- And was taken over by the Canadian government in 1943.
- A couple decades later the crown corporation was renamed Eldorado Nuclear.
- By then there's a thriving industry with a number of other Canadian uranium suppliers.
- Eldorado wanted more profits, so it asked the other suppliers to fix prices.
- The other suppliers refused, because it was illegal.
- So Eldorado, being a crown corporation, got the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources to order the other suppliers to fix prices with Eldorado.
- Being so ordered by the government, they complied.
- The US government sees uranium prices jump, and opens a criminal investigation.
- The RCMP agrees, opens their own investigation, and starts to lay charges.
- The Department of Energy, Mines and Resources says "never mind", dismantles Eldorado, and exits stage left.
- The private suppliers are left to deal with the charges.

I wouldn't know, the article makes the link to the Uranium One deal and The Hill is usually fairly credible. I've ignored the noise as we were doing 7 months ago until seeing this latest from it. If there was sleaze or sloppiness towards the appearance of sleaze, I want it exposed.

PolitiFact had a look at The Hill's story: What you need to know about Hillary Clinton, Russia, and uranium

The gist of it is that word of the investigation didn't filter up to even the higher-ups in the FBI, making it unlikely that Hillary over at the State Department would have known about it.
For now at least, we aren’t aware of any evidence that Clinton knew anything about the FBI investigation. If anything, the Hill’s reporting suggests the opposite.
And again, the State Department was just one of nine government agencies that signed off on the transaction.

There was a relevant ongoing investigation and somewhere in the chain of command, not necessarily with Hillary, information was blocked or ignored. Hence, the PolitiFact Truth-O-Meter has now moved from "Mostly False" to "we won’t put any claims".

This one ain't going away. It would be nice if further investigation was honest and credible, but I won't count on it. The reichwing is already making extreme and unfounded claims about the new info.

As they will continue to do until they find something - related or not, bs or not - it doesn't matter.
