Single hurricane thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Finally stopped raining. Dog may be the happiest of all.

Cool. I know that east side is worst for storm surge and wind (or north side on the Atlantic coast). Is that also true for rain or did you just get unlucky?

Mostly so, the bands typically dump more water on the east, but this storm had pretty much everything trailing on the east side and nothing on the west side.

No rain for a couple hours now. Still no sun.

and the rains keeps coming. while our 24 inches in 24 hours and our 10 inches in one hour records don't appear to be in danger, I bet we will get into double digit rainfall.
What was your Gordon rain total?

Hawaii is about to get smacked again, Hurricane Olivia:

Hurricane Florence shifted slightly north, coastal NC may get the brunt instead of SC, maybe not so much in WNC:

Wherever it goes, I hope it doesn't come ashore as a 4, or have sharks in it.

Do they live for 300 miles in the air?

Tropical Storm Isaac (and sharks) headed your way?

I saw sharknado on the tv.

Well, not really, but I did watch ten minutes.

Hurricane Isaac

Looks rough for Haiti and the Dominican Republic, possibly Cuba, but maybe a TS then.

Hurricane Florence

The Carolinas are screwed, VA will get battered, WV, MD and DC could be rough.

Hurricane Olivia

HI will be wet again.

Well, it's a really good thing that climate change is a Chinese hoax. Otherwise, there would be ocean waters warming up and we'd have more hurricanes and stronger ones. Oh wait.

I haven't looked it up in a while, but last I knew most models predict stronger hurricanes from AGW - 4 Cat 4s last year - not necessarily more frequent ones.

This will be the last "Florence".

Good luck to all in its path. Unless it goes through DC as a 4, then there are certain specific caveats.

People should and will move to high ground. Loss of lives and injuries are nothing like they once were, but property damage is so much greater due to development.

If you've never experienced it, the day to day for the next 2 to 3 years of rubble piles, fema trailers in front yards, tarped roofs, restricted areas, living in houses with plastic trying to keep drywall dust out of the kitchen, and leaning trees takes a toll.

Yes . . . as long as we're still discussing hurricanes. :D

Maybe more frequent hurricanes overall, just no certainty about it last I saw.

Not Raleigh?

The Hurricane Isaac forecast is literally all over the map. It was aimed directly at The Keys and you last night, now at the Yucatan.

WU map updates at 05, 11, 17, and 23.

Hurricane Helene headed for Europe. :wtf:

After staying nearly stationary over ENC for a day or more, Hurricane Florence is now headed straight for Hendersonville, still a Tropical Depression.

Hurricane Florence - Big shift south, SC's coast may get the worst of it now. Still heading my way after the coastal pause.

It reminds me of Opal.

Huge, cat 4, moving in a straight line, pushing a huge surge, drops to a 2 before landfall,

Don't be fooled, the surge will still be from a cat 4. Our barrier island, Pensacola Beach, was completely under 3 to 6 feet of water for about 8 hours.

The anticipated coastal pause is being compared to Hurricane Mitch.
