Single hurricane thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Ingle's has Bounty 60% off today for their Friday "high noon" special.
Coincidence?
They're 10x the normal price east of I-95.

I hope not!
Why paper towels for storm clean up? The best use would be mopping the sweat off one's face. I don't get it.

Ingle's has been entertaining this week. I'm not in there for storm supplies, I'm there for odds and ends. I haven't seen that much beer carried out since 4th of July. The cheap bread is gone, the healthy bread is abundant. And who would have thought there'd be no regular gas?

So what are we getting? The forecasts are all over the place, but this I know- when moisture slams up against the Blue Ridge escarpment, we can get torrential downpours. We are preparing for a deluge here, and hoping we are wrong.

Maybe not for the storm clean up, but they can be useful on people, utensils, etc. when clean, running water is limited.

... The cheap bread is gone, the healthy bread is abundant....

Healthy bread gets moldy faster unless frozen, but that won't be the reason for people that never eat it, anyhow.

Idk, 3-6" over mostly Sat. & Sun. is what I'm seeing. Look at that Tropical Depression symbol smack on top of us.

You may watch him more than me, but that's not what happened here. POSPOTUS is the liar, Brock Long cowered from addressing it, and George Stephanopoulos wasn't visibly pissed.
I wasn't thinking of that particular instance; I didn't see it. I had other instances of Trump-Stephanopoulos encounters in mind.

I guess that I don't understand

Why is everyone on CNN freaking out about a catastrophic storm surge at 3 a.m. high tide in Myrtle Beach?

I thought that TS Florence would be hitting MB with winds from the NE. Oh no, trump is right, CNN is fake news.

Here's an article about the vid you found:

Weatherman Braces For Hurricane Florence While 2 Guys Walk By As If Nothing’s Wrong
Reporting on Florence in North Carolina, he girds himself in the storm, but two passers-by appear less distressed.

It recalls a couple of vids from different storms:

Michelle, row your boat ashore . . . Oh wait, it already is, Hallelujah!

"HuffPost reached out to the Weather Channel, which supplied this statement:"

(In the age of trump) “It’s important to note" (through the use of a double down lie) "that the two individuals in the background are walking on concrete, and Mike Seidel is trying to maintain his footing on wet grass,"

He faked it
He got caught faking it
But instead of admitting it and moving on
He and his network of weather news people lied again with an even bigger less believable lie.

Incredible. Even if that made any sense at all we would have to ask why he didn't step onto the pavement 2 feet away.

I would have gone with: "Isn't that eye wall amazing?" :D

Florence’s 1-in-100-Year Storm Surge Breaks All-Time Records

My address is minimal, but just a few yards away, not so minimal. The outer band is already nudging Spartanburg, and it's sprinkling here. I'm anticipating becoming waterfront property before it's all over.

<sigh> Piles of towels ready for wet dogs.

Puppies and children love a downpour and making a mess.

I sure hope y'all don't wash away. We're flat and can mostly handle a 20+ inch rain. This slow motion thing is going to be dumping a huge amount of water to feed into your rivers for days.

That was total bullshit.

They should understand a storm surge better than I do. Their job is to inform, not to scare people into running unnecessarily.
