Single hurricane thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The current headline on the CBC news site: Trump compares death toll in Puerto Rico to 'real catastrophe like Katrina'

I'm not going to read the story. Nope. Not going there. I found my limit.

I did. Wow.

Trump says Puerto Rico didn't suffer a 'real catastrophe' like Katrina

America is suffering a "real catastrophe" - our Cretin in Chief.

Brownie was ahead of his time. By Trump standards he did a "heckuva job" after all.

The Independent: Puerto Rico mayor invited to take part in White House conference call on hurricane disaster effort - but told she could not speak
One day before Mr Trump’s departure for Puerto Rico, the White House contended that it had reached out to Ms Yulin to participate in a conference call led by Tom Bossert, the president’s Homeland Security advisor, on improving the federal emergency response.

“Our focus is to bring the mayor into the coordination efforts,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters. “This administration, as well as other members on the ground, have reached out to her. We hope that she will join with us in those efforts and be a part of things. She's been invited to participate in the events tomorrow, as well.  And we hope that those conversations will happen and we can all work together to move forward.”

But Ms Yulin, who is now sleeping in cramped quarters with all her family and members of her staff at the sports arena, revealed that the conversation with Mr Bossert and other officials hadn’t quite been that. “I was invited to participate in a conference via a text,” she said. “I did. When I went into the call it said you are allowed in a listening capacity only…so I listened.”

His visit to Puerto Rico is a total embarrassment.
Lobbing paper towels? Most cringeworthy president ever.

FYI: Keep an eye to the sky. Nate's a'coming, and we could get the leftovers.

Tropical Depression Sixteen (Nate later today)

Supposedly a Cat 1 when it hits billy.pilgrim, but it seems like every storm this year has strengthened beyond initial predictions, knock on wood (yes, I literally did that for you, billy.pilgrim).

I'm sitting right now, looking out over white sand at the Gulf of Mexico, in the house that Opal built.

22 years ago today

Opal had a very similar track as this storm. Opal hit Mexico as a TD, hung out awhile before barrelling in a straight line as a huge cat 4 at Pensacola Beach pushing half the gulf along with it

The entire width of the island was under about 4 feet of water for hours.

We had just cashed the wind storm payment for the total limit from Erin.

Flood totaled it (really really did) again and didn't care that we had just been paid.

And here I sit watching the sun go down, hoping this one hits Panama City

The NHC has shifted Nate to the west, with LA in the bulls eye.
That would put WNC on the dirty side, just like with Opal, who gifted us with screaming wind and flooding.
Still, anything can happen- be safe down there!

Someday when I have the time, I'll bore y'all with my Opal story. I understand to get off the barrier islands, but past that I no longer run - the dangers exceed the storm, especially from the idiots in charge (reference criminal teabag governor Scott and his recent "you will die" comments).

I have another story about Ivan that's pretty good at showing the crazy places a mind can go when alone in the dark after midnight during a hurricane.

And Eloise
And Camille x2
And Erin
And Dennis
And several more

I guess they all make stories

Our house withstood Ivan, or at least the elevated living area did and this time we have new impact resistant windows for viewing, instead of block out metal shutters.

Depends on the strength, but I may go to the beach if 75 mph or less.
