Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Isn't the neut always wrong?
The neut is frequently (most always) wrong in one way or another. In this case, I'd say he's most wrong in implying that there is any way in Hell that the current batch of Republicans are going to "...think through recent elections and design a summer and fall effort that keeps the Republican majority in the House."
Terror attack, war, actually finding a Dem child sex ring in a pizza shop basement. Or, they could just count on the Dems shooting themselves in the foot, it's often a winning strategy,

Liberal Dallet easily takes Wisconsin Supreme Court race

Rebecca Dallet, a liberal Milwaukee judge, easily defeated conservative Michael Screnock on Tuesday in the race for Wisconsin Supreme Court, fueling optimism among Democrats for more victories in the fall midterms.

The win in the first statewide general election in the country this year forced Gov. Scott Walker, who endorsed Screnock, to warn his fellow Republicans.

"Tonight's results show we are at risk of a #BlueWave in WI," Walker, who is up for re-election in November, tweeted....

She won by a nearly 12-point margin ...

Time's Up, Men: More Than 300 Women File For House Races

Women serving in the House of Representatives made up only 19.6 percent of lawmakers in 2017, but that number could change after the 2018 midterm elections.

A record-setting 309 women have filed to run for U.S. House seats this year, The Associated Press reported on Thursday. That number is expected to grow. Half the states still have open filing periods, and The Cut’s Rebecca Traister reported in January that an estimated 390 women are planning to run for House seats this year....

Republicans Giving Up House Seats At A Rate Not Seen In Decades

Republican House members are leaving Congress at the fastest pace in modern history, according to elections data compiled by Daily Kos.

So far, 37 House Republicans have announced they are retiring, running for another office or resigning outright. Such an exodus usually precedes the beginning of every primary season, but this year is shaping up to break records.

“This is more Republican retirements than any year since at least 1952 (and possibly much earlier than that),” Daily Kos Elections editor Daniel Donner tweeted last week.

By contrast, the comparable number for House Democrats totals 18....

I wish the numbers didn't include those running for the senate. that's a lot different than leaving because of an unfriendly electorate.

I think the numbers and graph are just about the House, but here's what the article says about the Senate:
... “I think the Republicans are in deep trouble in the House and the Senate as well,” Republican pollster Frank Luntz said Sunday on Fox News. “If the election were held today, frankly, I think Republicans would lose both.”

The head of a super PAC aligned with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) went even further on Monday, telling The Washington Post that GOP donors should steer their finances to efforts to save the Senate because the House may already be lost.

Republicans hold 237 House seats, Democrats 193, with 5 vacant. Republicans control the Senate by a narrow margin, 51-49, but most of the chamber’s seats on the ballot this year are held by Democrats, giving the GOP a better chance of keeping its majority....

A safe secure rep leaving for a senate run doesn't mean much. There will still be a repug rep in 2019.

Leaving these out gives a better picture of the ones leaving because they are looking at getting trashed in the next election.

True, it would be a bit more complete if those leaving to run for other seats were discounted or asterisked. However, the opportunities for either party remain the same, and 37-18 (plus however many Repugs that are running that are imperiled) is pretty good for the Dems.

And no matter the district, it's still easier to compete for an empty seat than against an incumbent.

Ask a question and the universe gives you an answer.
The 2018 Congressional Retirement Tracker
House Speaker Paul Ryan is the latest, and by far the most prominent, Republican to announce he’ll retire from Congress after this year. Here's a running list of all the lawmakers calling it quits.

... The trend to this point gives a distinct edge to the Democrats. While roughly the same number of lawmakers in both parties are leaving their seats to run for higher office, just 11 House Democrats are retiring outright or have already resigned, compared with 27 Republicans. (House members running for other offices often count as retirements, because it’s usually impractical or illegal to run for multiple positions at the same time.) Including those members who are leaving to run for another office, there will be 19 open House seats vacated by Democrats and 40 by Republicans....

This Poll Is Extremely Bad News for Ted Cruz
Everything is bigger in Texas, except for the incumbent Republican senator’s shrinking lead.

Texas Democratic Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke has more cash on hand than Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, an army of small-dollar donors, and a penchant for drawing big crowds for everything from 5 a.m. jogs to small-town meet-and-greets. But in a state where Democrats haven’t won a statewide election since 1996, does the El Paso congressman actually have a shot at knocking off Cruz?

A new poll from Quinnipiac suggests it’s not as far-fetched as it once seemed. The Connecticut-based pollster has O’Rourke just three points back, and within the margin of error at 47–44.

It’s one poll, and it’s still early. (A earlier survey from PPP had Cruz up by eight percent.) But something strange is happening in Texas this year, and O’Rourke shows no signs of going away quietly.

Another instance in which just the fact that it's not a Cruz runaway is bad news for the Repugs. But still, if he weren't such an unlikeable, despicable excuse for a human he'd probably keep a comfortable lead. But now the only thing going for him is that he's a Canadian-Texan with an "R" by his name. Trumpers aren't fond of him because he was anti-Trump. Non-Trumpers don't like him because he's Ted Cruz. I think there's a real opportunity there.

All politicians experience a turning point where they lose the respect of even their supporters and their career is essentially over. For Bush II it was Hurricane Katrina. For Trump it was defending Nazis. For Ted Cruz it when the nurse cut his umbilical cord.

Ted Cruz Mocked For His Fawning Time Magazine Tribute To Donald Trump
Ted Cruz’s blurb about Trump for Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People is one of the most humiliating things ever written
You can always trust @tedcruz to tell it like it is

Image
Is there anything more Cruzian than Ted Cruz slavishly writing the Trump entry for Time’s 100 influential people issue while this remains in Trump’s twitter feed?
Donald J. Trump
‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump

"@Don_Vito_08: "A picture is worth a thousand words" @realDonaldTrump #LyingTed #NeverCruz @MELANIATRUMP "

Image
As you read Sen. Cruz’s heroic praise of POTUS for Time’s "100 Most Influential,” it's worth remembering this tweet making fun of Cruz’s wife is still live. Trump has never apologized for this and similar attacks on Cruz’s family.
If you were afraid to ask somebody for a favor, just remember: @tedcruz just penned a glowing tribute in @TIME to the man who accused his dad of assasination and called his wife ugly. So just go for it!
Remember when Donald Trump suggested he had dirt on Ted Cruz’s wife? The parade of indignities marches on.
http://time.com/collection/most-influen ... d-trump-2/
Donald Trump very publicly called Ted Cruz’s wife ugly and crazy. He suggested multiple times that Ted Cruz’s father helped kill JFK.

Now Cruz writes the TIME100 piece praising Trump.

This is so utterly pathetic.
At some point within the last month Ted Cruz woke up, looked himself in the mirror, and said "Time to write nice things about the guy who said my dad killed a former President"
