The Global Warming thread.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The most famous Diego of all.....

Played by a white guy.
Thanks, I never knew that "Zorro is the secret identity of Don Diego de la Vega", or is it that Don Diego de la Vega is the secret identity of Zorro?

Careful, Guy Williams had Sicilian parentage. You never know. ;) Interesting - Williams parlayed the popularity of Zorro 28 years earlier into an adopted home in Argentina for the last 10 years of his life. So, the white guy from California traded on the Californian Zorro to go live with white folks in Argentina.

Speaking of Argentinian Diegos, there's Diego Maradona, the 2nd most famous Diego of all, if not the first, but he's in Mexico. :D

Then, there's Diego Garcia. "Between 1968 and 1973, the population was forcibly removed by the (almost entirely white) United Kingdom and the (largely white) United States to establish an American base through intimidation of locals and denying the return of any who left the island."

So I headed out to my neighborhood Publix to stock up for the weekend weather. Plenty of bread and milk still there, but the supply of good beer was getting low and the sunscreen shelves had been ransacked.

You guys stay warm up there!
18" here, beautiful, 38F melting some, will get slowly warmer thru the week, neighbor girl riding her minibike through it, sort of, looked like she was having fun.

I guess we could do the same with Smith

Wiki says
"Diego de San Nicolás, was a Spanish Franciscan lay brother who served as among the first group of missionaries to the newly conquered Canary Islands."

He died of a most pleasant smelling abscess but was able to continue his function as a highly flexible closet sachet long after death.
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”

About 10 inches of snow here; went out about 11 to get some more of my medicine from the car and the door was like a mini snow plow. Fed the local black cat for good luck (the fucker has no chance of being discreet in this snow) and rushed back in for some serious dieting in order to be in fine shape should the power go out.

Indirect costs of fossil fuels, not paid for by investors, sellers or consumers:

USA had world's 3 costliest natural disasters in 2018, and Camp Fire was the worst

Partly due to real and other property values being higher in the US and Japan.

I wonder how many years after we pass the tipping point it will take to recognize that we have passed the tipping point.
I dunno. Ask them...

56 here yesterday, 67 by Tues. :sunny:

Trump used the polar vortex to mock global warming. This map shows how wrong he is.
Trump tweeted, “What the hell is going on with Global Warming?” Well, it’s still happening.

...

Image

It shows daily temperature anomaly — or how different global temperatures were compared to a baseline from 1979 to 2000 — around the whole world. Overall, the world on January 29 was 0.3°C warmer on average, compared to the baseline. That’s true despite the fact parts of North America are 10-plus degrees below average.

And it doesn’t change the fact that 2018 was the fourth-hottest year on record, or that there’s a massive heat wave currently overtaking much of Australia, or that Arctic sea ice continues to disappear at an alarming rate. This year could still end up being the hottest year on record, as forecasters anticipate an El Niño cycle picking up.

Here’s the take-home lesson: You shouldn’t look out your window to determine if you believe climate change is real.
