Gun Legislation

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I'd give them a pass on that one, personally.
1. They're in Dallas, and they routinely host all sorts of conventioneers.
2. Activities were probably booked before the most recent uproar.
3. They probably see (although we may not) a difference in renting space to a customer and having any other "business relationship."

Now, if they still keep seeking NRA business in the future, I'd see it differently.

CBC: It is too late for gun control in America

Neil Macdonald was the CBC's Washington correspondent for 12 years, and before that he spent five years reporting from the Middle East. I find his articles on Washington to be very insightful.

Perhaps true, but more bleak than I choose to be. I keep thinking how different things would be now if we'd stymied the NRA's takeover by the gun industry and lunatics 40 years ago, and hope that action now will improve the US 40 years from now.

Just helping that along, and there's been a mass shooting every month for awhile now. It's not like I really had any upcoming Omni stay plans, anyhow.

Somebody should ask these people why, if it's a good idea to arm the teachers, they haven't suggested also allowing students who are legally allowed to purchase and own firearms to bring them to school. If the principle is "more guns, more safety" then why not? Of course, there are many very good reasons "why not" but to express those, the gun nuts would have to accept the validity of some restrictions on who, when, and where one can be armed.

Handguns aren't legal for those under 21 and we probably don't want to allow 21-year-olds that are still in high school to be armed. :D

Sure, but handguns aren't that effective against AR-15's anyway. If the 18-year olds can buy an AR-15, then let them carry it around school. Stupid idea, sure, but consistent with NRA ummm "logic."

Marco Rubio slams teens as 'infected' by 'arrogance and boasting' as his approval rating plummets

... Rubio held an approval rating of just 38 percent, with 53 percent disapproving of his job in office.

The numbers mark Rubio's lowest approval rating since he joined the Senate in 2011....

Congratulations!
Congress has taken action.

The Hill: House members allowed to use taxpayer funds for bulletproof vests, security personnel
A House committee voted Tuesday to pass a resolution that would allow members to pay for bulletproof vests and security personnel using taxpayer funds.
I'll bet you feel safer already.

The price of the ones cops wear is about $700. But with special federal purchasing rates and deals, the congressional model would be more like $1,000-$1,200 or so. Anyway a half mill to outfit them. Giving them access to body armor isn't all that unreasonable for going out in public, particularly to town hall type meetings. Some have been shot or shot at. Better use of funds than buying Carson a $5,000 office chair.

??? The article I linked says about you:

"Omni’s Dallas outpost will host events put on by the NRA as part of its national convention in May. A spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment."

Discounts aren't the issue, but your business relationship with the NRA is.

Laziness on their part or deliberate obfuscation?
Thank you for reaching out. Omni does not offer NRA member discounts or have any
partnership with the NRA. The Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas is
hosting the NRA annual meeting in May and we, like other hotels in the area, are
providing rooms and meeting space. As a hospitality company, we provide meeting
space for many organizations that hold a variety of political views, none of which
reflects an endorsement by Omni.

I hope this provides clarification.
Sincerely,
Alayna

Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is a Canadian cooperative that sells outdoor recreation gear and clothing with stores in 22 cities. They're known for their eco-friendly building designs and attitude.

Vista Outdoor owns outdoor brands including Bollé, Bushnell, CamelBak, Camp Chef and Jimmy Styks. But Vista also makes ammunition that MEC doesn't sell.

After intense public pressure over the last few days, MEC dropped Vista products.

No doubt Cabela's (owned by Bass Pro Shops since October), with at least a couple stores here in Winnipeg alone, will still be selling them.
