The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

As you say about most of the modern country featured on the video, it ain't good, and I don't find the words worth understanding.

We used to go to Union Grove until it got so crowded

I'm still pushing Chris. Have you ever listened to him.

I wouldn't call myself a fan; I did watch the show pretty often, mostly because I liked their whacked out Pontiac GTO. In about 1977 I was in a hotel stairway in Tokyo and Davey Jones was coming down the stairs as I was going up. He was really short and really recognizable.

That's okay.

Not your grandmother's music.

I don't know, might be closer to my grandmother's music than modern country pop is. I square danced on Main St. in downtown Hendersonville while visiting the grandparents when I was a child.

I went to the Opry and to the midnight show at Ernest Tubbs record store when I was 7 or 8.

In 1976, the Lady of the Month and I decided to go to Galax for the Fiddler's Convention. South Central Virginia was pretty much the ends of nowhere for us back then and somehow we managed to miss Galax and ended up in Independence. OK, so they're having a bluegrass convention, too and we're in Independence somewhere around Independence Day in the Bicentennial year - what the hell, let's stay here. It was great! Bands were pretty much local sorts, including one group of guys that had finished up their shift in the coal mine and come down to play. Doesn't get much more authentic than that. And then it rained, but nobody cared. Soaking wet, fragrant smoke so thick you didn't even have to have brought your own. Ended up way too stoned to drive anywhere, didn't have a room so we slept in the car, which was an MG-B. Helluva drive home the next day, too.

A year or two earlier and we would have (almost) crossed paths. Nobody cared about the smoke or the car trunks full of jugs of white lightnin'. Just hippies and hillbillies having a good time. The jams in the campground were as good as what was on stage.

Once in a while, something comes along that feels real good. This is four years old, but still has "that magic"

Trump’s nuts roasting on an open fire
as he keeps nipping at his foes.
you’ll cry creepy uncle
every time he arrives
for he keeps clawing at your clothes
everybody knows some money and entitlement
can help to make the season white
mothers of color with their kids out of sight
will find it hard to sleep at night.

They know that truuump is on his way.
he’s got black boys in hoodies locked up on his sleigh
and every working man is going to cry
when they learn that Letch don’t care how you live or if you die

Sooo I’m offering this simple phrase
to kids from 1 to 92
although it’s been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
Donald Trump, fuck you

Great show.

Guess - "best-selling American band of all time"?
Spoiler:
I would not have gotten that.

I'm pretty sure $150mill isn't the top. I don't know what they're talking about. Maybe most concert earnings?
