College baseball

Unread post by billy.pilgrim »

Okay, my great football and basketball teams fell apart when it counted, but Auburn baseball will shirley be different.

Coaches poll has us at #11.

Colleges play baseball? I thought all of the real players went to farm teams straight out of high school. :P

Is Shirley from Auburn pretty good?

Nah, Shirley is just different.

College does its share for the pro teams. Bo Jackson, Gregg Olson and Frank Thomas come to mind.

  Nttawwt.

College does its share for the pro teams. Bo Jackson,

Doesn't count, football doesn't have a farm system.

Gregg Olson

Fair enough.

and Frank Thomas come to mind.

Not for lack of trying:
Frank Thomas: Early life and college

... Columbus High School ... He wanted desperately to win a contract to play professional baseball, but was not selected in the 1986 amateur draft....

In the autumn of 1986, Thomas accepted a scholarship to play football at Auburn University....

I was just teasing, anyhow. I'm sure that college baseball is meaningful

but all in all, baseball supports what I have been saying about basketball and football. if you can play in the nfl or nba at 16, do it. There's plenty of time later, or along with sports, for education.

college sports should be for amateurs.

Fun times in T-town this past weekend.

Auburn had a couple of firsts.

First shutout of bammer since 1990

First sweep in Tuscaloosa since 1976

Friday night's 19 to 5 score was the largest margin of victory in the history of the series, which dates back to 1896

Until Saturday night's 20 to 5 win.

http://www.oanow.com/sports/college/aub ... 3bbce.html

Damn, I love amateur sports.

On edit

Bammer has scored 40 points in their last 9 games in Tuscaloosa
Auburn had scored 44 points in their last 3 games in Tuscaloosa

Stats can be fun

"The right-hander did something Friday only four pitchers in program history had ever done before. He struck out 15, tying a single-game Auburn record and setting a new personal mark by two.

Mize's gem, plus home runs from catcher Brett Wright and left fielder Conor Davis, lifted Auburn to a 4-1, series-opening victory over No. 17 Vanderbilt in front of a crowd of 3,599."

Ouch, bummer. Better than Bama, though.

Not bad in the regionals

AU 13 Northeastern 4

AU 12 Army 1

AU 15 North Carolina State 7

Florida (I think) next in the Super Regionals.

Florida it is.

Looks like we have to play all three games in Gainesville.

We played them 3 times during the regular season (all three times in Gainesville) and only won one.

Was wondering how you got in after losing in the SEC. I never knew that it's a 64-team field.

Go Huskies!

Go Huskies!

It looks like both our teams drew one of the easier Regionals. Rankings don't mean a lot before these playoffs, but maybe you get a better chance by playing an unranked team in the Supers. Good luck.

A big chunk of the top ten were eliminated. Too bad #1 Florida wasn't one, but encouraging that they needed the "if necessary" game last night.

And how about our pitcher being the #1 draft pick.

Impressive.

I kinda like Florida. Then, I like Duke along with the Huskies, both of which Auburn may see Championship Series. So, good luck to you or not, then probably bad luck. :P

I imagine he will pitch the 1st game - Saturday noon eastern.

Might be fun to watch if you don't mind watching the gators strike out 12 or 15 times (I have great faith - always)

I rarely think baseball is fun to watch on TV and my support for Florida is tepid. If Florida does win, I'll be immediately rooting for WA and/or Duke over it, assuming they advance. However, now that I know I might surf there now and then if I'm not doing something else. Thanks.

Same here. I only started watching because Auburn was playing but have also watched a few before and after games.

I watch very casually while doing something else - if I miss something, there's the replay.

Should be a good pitching contest.
That sucked. Feel a little sorry for Mize - he goes the whole season with only 12 walks, then gives up 4 in 5 innings.

Ouch, Best of 3 Series at least.
Huskies are also down 0-1, play again this evening.
Duke's up 1-0 in the 5th inning of their first game.
