Wonder if it was her only bet

The article implies that it might be, but I doubt it. Hardly anybody who bets on horses or dogs takes just one.

yeah, I saw that - after I posted, but agree with you, especially with the $18.00 being an unusual single longshot bet

I read the article as saying that she bet on 5 races.

Justify says he's not going to visit the White House. Said if he'd wanted to see a horses ass he'd have finished second. Badaboom.

So some group of people thinks Texas Longhorn anthem "The Eyes of Texas" is sufficiently offensive to be replaced. Not because of offensive lyrics, which are not, unless you look at them as being about a stalker. But because the music was once used in minstrel shows as "Working on the Railroad" and there may have sometime been an actual Black cook named "Dinah." So isn't anybody interested in the Kentucky Derby song "My Old Kentucky Home" which really is about a slave and written from a slave point of view? Or the Florida state anthem "Swanee River" that like many Stephen Foster songs was originally written in dialect and is also from a slave's point of view?

And a local high school is dumping "Conquistadors" and becoming "Rattlesnakes." And Junipera Serra will become Canyon Hills (an improvement I'd say) after students successfully campaigned to remove Serra's name. Serra was the primary founder of the Mission system that generally abused the indigenous people here at the time.

80-1 longshot wins the Derby.
He was so much faster and had more endurance than the others. I really really hope he wasn't doped.

Yeah, last year was a fiasco.

Damn, I forgot to place a bet. Just $20 = $1600.

If he never runs again but stays healthy, he'll make a fortune in return for his $30,000 original price. On the other hand, if he's really that much better than the others maybe he'll go out with better odds next time.

Only 1 part of him (well 3) have to stay healthy.

Wow, that's nearly impossible. I'll bet the odds would have been > 80:1 well into the race.

... Rich Strike was in 17th position into the final turn, and began accelerating through the pack, moving to the inside as the race entered the front stretch....
"17th ... final turn" Like Tom Brady vs the Eagles.
Rick Dawson, owner of Rich Strike, found out his horse would be running in the Derby about 30 seconds before the Friday morning entry deadline. Ethereal Road's scratch opened the door for Rich Strike, whose owner and trainer had already made plans to begin training this weekend in New York for the Belmont Stakes. It's safe to say those plans have changed.
"30 seconds"
... Rich Strike's victory was the greatest odds upset since 1913, when 91-1 long shot Donerail claimed victory....
"since 1913"

:wtf:

This is disappointing. Rich Strike's trainer is a dope.

ESPN tried to corral Eric Reed, who trained long shot winner Rich Strike, about the sexist slur.

I guess I'm not rooting for the Triple Crown. :(
