Who are these people posing as the Miami football team?
"posing as" is giving them too much credit.

Auburn's humiliation hurt Alabama since it was just beat up by Auburn. I want Ohio St. to get the nod and think it should, but it didn't dominate WI and the argument for Alabama is defensible. We'll see.

Counting side bets, I finish -$65 on the season. :(

But, the Bowl Pool is coming.

I was worried but not that worried. Never imagined that our defence would cave.

I'm glad I didn't spend a beautiful day actually watching these train wrecks. Oh well, as any UNC alum says most every year - "It's basketball season now."

Decent discussion:
CFP committee now has a choice: Urban Meyer's Buckeyes or Nick Saban's Crimson Tide

... PROS BUCKS: Ohio State (11-2) won a conference title and has two better wins – Penn State and Wisconsin – than Alabama’s best (LSU).

PROS BAMA: Alabama went 11-1 and has a better loss (Auburn) than one of Ohio State’s losses (Iowa).

CONS BUCKS: Ohio State got boat-raced by both Oklahoma (31-16) and the Hawkeyes (55-24), the latter of which is inexplicable and, in some circles, unforgivable.

CONS BAMA: They didn’t win the conference title and don’t have a hallmark victory. (We can thank Troy for devaluing the LSU win. Who’d have thought Neal Brown would be muddling the playoff argument?)

... (Big Ten Commissioner Jim) Delany trotted out some rhetoric that will surely be spoken of with disdain in church pews and brunch spots on Sunday morning. He told Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune: “I feel we can make an argument that we’re the strongest conference.” He also chided the SEC crutch of playing FCS opponents and only eight league games: “When you substitute an FCS opponent and only play eight [conference games], it’s really a different universe of competitive challenges.” ...
I get that it will be Ohio State or Alabama, BUT -

PROS USC: USC (11-2) won a conference title and has 2 good wins over Stanford, better than Alabama’s best (LSU). Neither of its losses to Washington State (barely) and Notre Dame are as bad as Ohio State’s loss to Iowa.

I'd prefer an 8 team playoff, especially since we have 5 major conferences. Each year we seem to exclude a #5 or #6 team that could win it all. That's a lot less likely with #9 or #10 teams.

This year an 8 team playoff would likely include Ohio State, Alabama, USC, Wisconsin, and Penn State, Miami or even UCF.

Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia and Alabama make College Football Playoff

Beating Mercer in week 12 put Alabama over the top.

Wow. It's official now, not even one team that I can halfway support in the playoffs. :gthumb:

Not sure why Alabama is in. We got the crap beat out of us in our last game too, but we didn't get in the playoffs.

It's a designated Alabama slot.

More seriously, having just 1 loss and being in the SEC is the determinant regardless of other rational considerations. No way that 3 losses would get in when WI has 1 loss and there are a bunch of 2 loss teams.

Alabama is favored by 1 1/2. I think Clemson is stronger.
Not sure what's up with the other game. The "Consensus" favors GA by 1, but all of the cited bookies say it's a pick or favor OK.
I'll stick with my favorites in the lesser Bowls, but I don't really care in the playoffs. Maybe I'll pick GA and OK for champ since they haven't won recently.

Lotta Bowls I don't care much about, but I'll be picking (with the spreads):

Appalachian State Mountaineers (8-4) > Toledo Rockets (11-2)
UCLA Bruins (6-6) > Kansas State Wildcats (7-5)
13 Stanford Cardinal (9-4) > 15 TCU Horned Frogs (10-3)
Louisville Cardinals (8-4) > 23 Mississippi State Bulldogs (8-4)
11 Washington Huskies (10-2) > 9 Penn State Nittany Lions (10-2)
Michigan Wolverines (8-4) > South Carolina Gamecocks (8-4)
12 UCF Knights (12-0) > 7 Auburn Tigers (10-3)

I'll probably vary the winners in the other Bowls with my 2-4 pick sets.

Must have been a glitch. The "Consensus" now favors OK by 1.

Fwiw, can't just blame the PSC, the AP and Coaches agree with it on the top 6 order.

Not the slightest inkling why Auburn got screwed in the bowl matchup. Granted we lost our last game of the season at the sec championship (that Alabama didn't have to play), but Alabama lost their last game of the season too.

I understand that we aren't in the top 4 - we lost. I just can't see why Alabama moved into the playoffs after losing their last game when there were other teams that could win their last game.

According to the PSC, AP and Coaches an 8-team playoff would have included Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama AND Ohio State, Wisconsin, Auburn and USC. A 12-team playoff with 1st round byes for the top 4 would have also included Penn State, Miami, Washington and unbeaten UCF. Very few would have any doubts that the best team was somewhere in those top 8 or 12 teams.

Ranking the 2017 bowl games 1-39: Alabama-Clemson III tops the list

... 4. PlayStation Fiesta Bowl: Washington (10-2) > Penn State (10-2) – Saturday, Dec. 30 (Glendale, Ariz.) ...

5. Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl: Central Florida (12-0) > Auburn (10-3) – Monday, Jan. 1 (Atlanta) ...

6. Valero Alamo Bowl: Stanford (8-4) > TCU (10-3) – Thursday, Dec. 28 (San Antonio, Texas) ...

9. Capital One Orange Bowl: Wisconsin (12-1) vs. Miami (11-2) – Saturday, Dec. 30 (Miami) ... (I care, but like them both)

12. Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl: San Diego State (10-2) > Army (8-3) – Saturday, Dec. 23 (Fort Worth, Texas)

13. Outback Bowl: Michigan (8-4) > South Carolina (8-4) – Monday, Jan. 1 (Tampa, Fla.) ...

14. TaxSlayer Bowl: Louisville (7-5) > Mississippi State (8-4) – Saturday, Dec. 30 (Jacksonville, Fla.) ...

16. Dollar General Bowl: Appalachian State (8-4) > Toledo (11-2) – Saturday, Dec. 23 (Mobile, Ala.) ...

17. Birmingham Bowl: South Florida (9-2) vs. Texas Tech (6-6) – Saturday, Dec. 23 (Birmingham, Ala.)

19. Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl: Northwestern (9-3) > Kentucky (7-5) – Friday, Dec. 29 (Nashville)

24. Cactus Bowl: UCLA (6-6) > Kansas State (7-5) – Tuesday, Dec. 26 (Phoenix) ...

36. NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl: New Mexico State (6-6) > Utah State (6-6) – Friday, Dec. 29 (Tucson, Ariz.)
Games I care about, not awful after the first 3. Then, there's:
39. Walk On’s Independence Bowl: Southern Miss (8-4) vs. Florida State (6-6) – Wednesday, Dec. 27 (Shreveport, La.) ...
Kinda cool that Florida State is the worst team in the worst Bowl.

Of course, I'm going to care about and watch many of them after I place my pool bets, though many of the conflicting bets will only matter after I see which pick set is doing well or not. It was 2 or 3 years ago that I won the Bowl Pool AND got my money back for the worst pick set.

The 2nd place pool winner donated every penny, including the $30 I lost on Miami, to Doug Jones for Alabama Senate!
Keith,

You are a better steward of my $30 than I would have been.

I told my brother to send the $15 side bet he owed me to Doug Jones. I think my $45 put him over the top.

In the semis Alabama is favored by just 2 1/2, Georgia is favored by just 2.

I would like to see Alabama get their asses handed to them in the first game, just because they don't deserve to be there. Otherwise, I don't care. Tell me who wins when it's all over.

I don't care about any of them until we get to #s 4, 5 & 6 above. In those all of my pick sets are the same. I only went with Alabama because it's slightly favored and our bets are straight up in the semis and final, no spread.

Our Canadian QB tried, but didn't have the protection.
