AP Rankings as of 11/5/2017

WTF, undefeated WI won 45-17, dropped from #4 to #6.
8-1 Clemson barely beat North Carolina State 38-31, jumped from #6 to #4.

The other changes seem fairly reasonable at a glance.

we play #1 and #2 over the next three weeks. I'm still not sure what we have. When we lost to then #? Clemson we were missing our big back and our quarterback was in his 1st game after skipping a year of football and lsu looked like most Gus's fault.

most would lose to a #1, or a #2 team without dropping in the polls much and without it saying much more than they got beat by #1 or #2, but we are about to play both - and could win. WDE

I will be betting on WDE plus the points over both AL & GA. If it's possible for a 7-2 team to make the playoffs, winning those 2 games outright is THE way to do it.

Bummer, #3 Notre Dame is playing @ #7 Miami this week. Which is worse, Indiana Catholics or private school Floridians?

I would even pull for bammer if they played ND. Go Canes.

That said, my favourite play not involving Auburn was

Message received loud and clear. I will bet on PSC #7 (8-0) Miami +3 vs #3 (8-1) Notre Dame in Miami. Since I like both and figure that either winner has a good shot at the playoffs, I'll punt and give you two the credit or the blame for this week's bet. Thanks!

If Miami wins out, it will include beating the hated Clemson in the ACC championship. I can dream.

Ugh, I'm picking #5 (8-1) Oklahoma -7.5 vs #6 (8-1) TCU, but what I really want is a 3-0 score after multiple OTs in a really ugly game. Instead, either winner has a good shot at the playoffs. With (8-1) Clemson playing lowly 3-5 Florida State, it could and probably should lose its #4 spot to the winner of this game. Fine with me.

#8 (9-0) Wisconsin is getting screwed. If it wins the Big 10 and is excluded, it will be a crime.

I'll post my other bets and any requests for further advice once the final spreads are posted Thursday morning.

Go:

#9 Washington -6 @ Stanford.
#21 Iowa St. +7 vs #15 Oklahoma St. Come back, giant killer, make it an OK sweep.
Georgia Tech +3 vs #17 Virginia Tech. Knock it out of the rankings.
Florida St. +16 @ #4 Clemson. Rare support for FSU, I can dream. Knock it out of the playoffs.
Michigan -16.5 @ Maryland. Yeah, I'm a traitor, but I want Michigan to look strongish when WI beats it next week.
West Virginia +2.5 @ Kansas St.
#8 (9-0) Wisconsin -12.5 vs #20 Iowa. Go Badgers, all the way.
#10 Auburn +2.5 vs #1 Georgia. Knock it out of the playoffs.
#19 Washington St. -1 @ Utah.
#16 Mississippi St. +14 vs #2 Alabama. I can dream. Knock it out of the playoffs.
#7 (8-0) Miami +3 vs #3 (8-1) Notre Dame.
#5 (8-1) Oklahoma -7.5 vs #6 (8-1) TCU.

Not sure about #18 UCF -38.5 vs Connecticut.
I want the Mickey Mouse U. to win, but is the spread too big? Did you know that it is the largest university in the United States by undergraduate enrollment and has the largest enrollment at a single campus?
Advice?

Crap. Looks like no Pac 12 team in the playoffs this year. :( I lost a side bet with a Stanford fan in the pool. He was too cheap to do it for money, so he's renaming my pool team name. I'll let you know what the new one is.

I went with:
#18 UCF -38.5 vs Connecticut. We'll see, that's a huge spread for a number 18 team from a weak conference.

Sports weekend almost over before it starts - 'Hawks win but lose Sherman; 'Heels managed a meaningless win; but Huskies go down, and Panthers don't play until Monday night. Oh well, go 'Canes and whoever is playing Alabama and Clemson.

Iowa St. came thaaat close to a tie or win vs. OK St., just 3 yards. Oh well, at least it’s a push.

Georgia Tech +3 vs #17 Virginia Tech. Knock it out of the rankings.
Georgia Tech was doing well, gave it away, came back on an 80 yard bomb, nice.

One down

"outright" may be an understatement. At one point they had 7 yards on 7 possessions.

FSU coulda won, knew that Clemson would run, still allowed a garbage TD with 0:35 left to fall short of the spread by 1, arrrggghhh.

Michigan -16.5 @ Maryland. Yeah, I'm a traitor, but I want Michigan to look strongish when WI beats it next week.
Good thing I ditched MD.

West Virginia +2.5 @ Kansas St.
Cool.

#8 (9-0) Wisconsin -12.5 vs #20 Iowa. Go Badgers, all the way.
They just might do it.

#10 Auburn +2.5 vs #1 Georgia. Knock it out of the playoffs.
Congrats!!!
I can make a 3-way tie for 1st IF I win the last 4 games. So far, Washington St. -1 and Mississippi St. +14 are looking good.

War Eagle!

"Noles are pretty worthless this year, but yeah, they could have done better against Clemson than they did. Meanwhile, we can enjoy Miss State tied with Alabama in the 2nd. Enjoy it while we can, I'd guess.

No offense intended...so what is the story about War Damn Eagles and Tigers?
Tiger is the mascot, always has been.
The story is that a student woke on a Civil War battlefield and found a young eagle chick that he raised. After returning to finish his degree, he stayed as a teacher. The eagle became known around campus as War Eagle. He was startled after a touchdown by crowd noise and as he flew the crowd pointed and screamed War Eagle.

Or

I also know why Clemson has a tiger mascot and why their colors look like what Auburn's orange and blue would fade to.

And why Auburn students roll the trees at Toomers
I had never heard this until today.

Patton went to the games while stationed at Benning and named his jeep War Eagle

Still
And #7 (8-0) Miami +3 vs #3 (8-1) Notre Dame and #5 (8-1) Oklahoma -7.5 vs #6 (8-1) TCU are both looking great.

Too bad AL had to win with 0:25 left, but I'll take the spread win. Barring a HUGE comeback in the other 2 games, 3-way for 1st, I go 10-5, win $28, will still be down $49 on the season.
