Holy shit - UNC won a game!
Over lowly 2-2 Pitt, 38-35.
Well of course "lowly." It's not like they'd have likely won against anybody who was in the top 100 or so.
N’Kosi Perry starts at QB but No. 16 Miami rides the Turnover Chain to victory over UNC

It was going to be hard to upstage the debut of N’Kosi Perry as the new starting quarterback for No. 16 Miami but if anything could do it, it had to be the Turnover Chain. College football’s most famous sideline trinket made six appearances — and even found the end zone three times — as the Hurricanes controlled the game throughout their ACC opener in an eventual 47-10 thrashing of North Carolina on Thursday night at Hard Rock Stadium....
Ouch. Go 'Canes!

Starting UNC QB Nathan Elliott did a fair job, 16 for 25, 104 yards, except that he lost 2 fumbles and one was returned for a TD.
Reliever UNC QB Chazz Surratt:
Lost 1 fumble;
Threw 10 times;
Completed 4 for 10 yards;
Threw 3 INTs that were returned for 150 yards and 2 TDs.

The UNC QBs passed for more Miami yards, 150 vs 125, and scored more Miami points, 18 vs 6, than the Miami QB. They also passed for more Miami yards than they did UNC yards, 150 vs 114. Is it possible to have negative QB ratings?

Looks like it.
UNC RB
7 carries, 75 yards, 10.7 yards per carry.

I didn't even know that it was on, just saw the article when I was looking up something else.

I only watched a few minutes, but saw him make 2 long runs.
He played well at Navarre, but wasn't really recruited - that I know of.

Unranked Syracuse led Clemson until 41 seconds left, still thrashed the 23.5 point spread. Didn’t someone rant last week that Clemson is unworthy of its high ranking? Oh wait, that was me.

WV secured the actual and 3.5-point spread win with a pick 6 vs a comeback-storming TX Tech with under 3 minutes left. Whew!

It's getting more competitive now.

Go:

La Lafayette +48.5 vs @#1 Alabama. Must be the SEC's favorite punching bag. 2 weeks ago Mississippi St beat them 56-10. Yep.
#12 West Virginia -3.5 vs @#25 Texas Tech. Knock them back out of the top 25. Yep.
#18 Texas -8.5 vs @Kansas St. Austin Power - I crack myself up. Darn, TX won but missed the spread by 3.5.
@#13 UCF -13.5 vs Pittsburgh. Is Pitt a real team, billy.pilgrim? ;) UCF 45, PITT 14.
@#10 Auburn -27 vs Southern Miss. I'm counting on them to not run up the score. :P AUB 24, USM 13. Auburn could have lost, that might be carrying compassion too far.
Florida +8.5 vs @#23 Mississippi St. Knock them out of the top 25. Yep.
@#22 Duke -5 vs Virginia Tech. That's a big fall from #13 last week to unranked and underdog to Duke. Ugh.
#4 Ohio St -3.5 vs @#9 Penn St. Ooh ooh, do I want the wife beaters or the pedophiles? Shame that it's one of two great games this week. At least one gets knocked out of the top 10 and maybe the playoffs.
South Carolina (ugh) +1.5 vs @#17 Kentucky. Knock them out of the top 25.
#7 Stanford +5 vs @#8 Notre Dame. The other great game.
@#11 Washington -17.5 vs #20 BYU. Jah rules, Joseph Smith drools. Knock them out of the top 25.
#19 Oregon -3 vs @#24 California. Sorry, Cal. Try not to collapse this week, Ducks.
I'm 1 point out of 1st.

App State beat South Alabama 52-7, big whoop other than it being a Conference game. MD has the week off.

South Carolina (ugh) +1.5 vs @#17 Kentucky. Knock them out of the top 25. Nope.
#7 Stanford +5 vs @#8 Notre Dame. The other great game. Not even close. :(
@#11 Washington -17.5 vs #20 BYU. Jah rules, Joseph Smith drools. Knock them out of the top 25. Washington beat the 17.5-point spread vs BYU in the 1st half, doubled it in the 3rd quarter.

I can't take 1st, my SiL won it. If LSU beats the 12 point spread, likely, and OR beats the 3 point spread, so far so good, I'll be in a 5-way tie for 2nd - $6.30, my first winnings this year.

AP and Coaches' Rankings

Arrrggghhh,
Why is Alabama #1 when it has not played anyone that's currently ranked and won't until 11/3, #5 or #6 LSU?
Why is Georgia #2 when it has not played anyone that's currently ranked and won't until 10/13, #5 or #6 LSU?
Why is Ohio State ranked #3 behind these two when it just beat #11 PSU?
Why is Clemson #4 when it barely escaped unranked TAMU and Syracuse, and has not played anyone that's currently ranked and won't until 10/20, if #23 or #25 NC St is even still ranked then? It could waltz into the playoffs without beating a single ranked team.
Why is #5 or #6 LSU ranked lower than these posers besides Ohio State when it beat #8 or #9 Auburn and trounced #17 Miami?
Why is Oklahoma #5 or #7 when it has not played anyone that's currently ranked, Iowa St played it tight 2 weeks ago and Army, Army! took it to OT? Go Texas!
Why are other undefeated teams not ranked at the same level as these posers besides Ohio State and LSU?
Why is #8 or #9 Auburn ranked lower than these posers besides Ohio State and LSU when it beat #10 Washington and lost to #5 or #6 LSU by a single point?

Oops, I missed a gripe.

Why is #7 or #6 Notre Dame ranked lower than these posers besides Ohio
State and LSU when it beat #15 or #16 Michigan and #14 Stanford?

Fwiw, I'm trying to not be partisan here. I'm not a fan of some of these
teams I'm bitchin' on behalf of, like Ohio State.

Go:

#19 Texas +7.5 vs @#7 Oklahoma. Knock it out of the top 10 and maybe the playoffs.
Maryland +17.5 vs @#15 Michigan. Try not to suck 17.5 points or more worth.
Boston Coll +4.5 vs @#23 N.C. State. Knock it out of the top 25.
@Wake Forest +17 vs #4 Clemson. I can dream that someone will do it.
@#17 Miami (FL) -12.5 vs Florida St. The aim now is to keep Florida St. out of the Bowls entirely.
Iowa St +10.5 vs @#25 Oklahoma St. Knock it out of the top 25.
#5 LSU -2.5 vs @#22 Florida. Too small a spread? Florida is 4-1 and that loss to now #13 Kentucky doesn't look as bad as it did 4 weeks ago.
@#12 UCF -24 vs SMU. Keep the unbeaten streak alive.
#10 Washington -21 vs @UCLA.
#8 Auburn -3 vs @Mississippi St. Auburn has been looking shaky.
#6 Notre Dame -5.5 vs @(24)Virginia Tech. Knock it out of the top 25.
@#14 Stanford -5 vs Utah. Left coast, represent.

Auburn maybe more so than most after losing Boobee and two O-line starters in the S. Miss game.

Bummer. Vegas must have already taken it into account, no change in the spread.

TX had a 21 point lead 6 minutes into the 4th quarter, blew all of it in the next 6 minutes. Whew, then it drove for a winning 40-yard field goal with 9 seconds left.

MD 21, Mich 42, missed the spread by 3.5.
Crap, BC missed the spread by 0.5.
AL racks up another rout against a weak team, but comes up 1 point short of the spread, nice.

I start 2-4, in a 6-way tie for 11th out of 18.

9-10, tied for 8th, out of the money.

Mississippi State QB Nick Fitzgerald ran for two touchdowns and a game-high 195 yards, and set the all-time SEC record for rushing by a QB, 2999 yards. He passed former Florida star Tim Tebow for the top spot. He also has 40 rushing TDs. That's something to brag about.

I wasn't trying to rub it in, Fitzgerald earned recognition regardless of opponent.

Yep, Stanford got crushed by Utah. I finished 9-11, 3-way tie for 8th. My season record is still tied for 15th out of 18. :(

Turns out there was an "eruption" of "mayhem" yesterday. Tally in just 20 games:

Top 10 teams that lost, 3 - #5 LSU, #7 Oklahoma, #8 Auburn.
Unbeaten teams that lost, 3 - #5 LSU, #7 Oklahoma, #13 Kentucky.
Other ranked teams that lost, 4 - #14 Stanford, #20 Michigan St, #24 Virginia Tech, #25 Oklahoma St.
Ranked teams that lost to an unranked team, 5 - #8 Auburn, #13 Kentucky, #14 Stanford, #20 Michigan St, #25 Oklahoma St.
Top 25 games decided by 8 points or less, 8.
Top 25 games decided by within 5 points of the spread or less, 9.
