What is the world coming to? Other surprises:

Detroit > Carolina
Denver > LA Chargers
New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams this year
Seattle Seahawks bouncing back?

Monday night: Kansas City (9-1) vs LA Rams (9-1). Whoever made that choice is getting an extra large xmas bonus this year.

(DC's) Alex Smith suffers Joe Thiesmann-esque leg injury 33 years to the day of Lawrence Taylor's tackle

That's a tragic coincidence. I can still see Thiesmann's broken leg.
And Lawrence Taylor's frantic waving to the sidelines...
Yes.

Alex Smith broke tibia and fibula, undergoing immediate surgery

Same as Thiesmann.

Wow, turn it on if you've been doing something else. 11 minutes left.

Edit: Another drive and TD since I posted, 9:38 left.

Edit #2: 21 points scored with less than 11 minutes to go, 35 in the 4th quarter, highest scoring MNF game EVER.

So I was thinking about all the hoopla over the DC-Team-That-Plays-In-Maryland name, and it occurred to me that there needs to be some work on some old favorite holiday songs. F'rinstance, "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Yule-tide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos..." Opps. Probably ought to be sung "...folks dressed up like certain indigenous peoples of Alaska" except then there would still be cultural misappropriation, so maybe the song should be "...folks dressed up from head to toe..." or something. Hey, they've changed "Suwanee River" and "My Old Kentucky Home" and many others.

Hail to the imitation indigenous people, hail victory, hunters and gatherers in the cornfield...fight for old close to DC!

"Eskimos" is not a derogatory name and dressing up like them is a reasonable thing to do in Winter. It's not like it's a common Halloween costume, though it would have been a good idea some of those Northern Rockies ones I suffered through.

Kinda sucks when there's only one game on and it's D.C. vs Dallas. Sigh, I guess I'll root for Dallas, go Iggles!

"Eskimos" is not a derogatory name ...
"In Canada and Greenland, the term "Eskimo" is predominately seen as pejorative and has been widely replaced by the term "Inuit" or terms specific to a particular group or community"

"The Inuit and Yupik peoples generally do not use it to refer to themselves, and the governments in Canada and Greenland have ceased using it in official documents"

"...the term Eskimo is still in use in Alaska" Ah, that explains it.

Yeah, it's complicated.

I support changing the words to The Christmas Song in Canada and Greenland. Nay, I demand it. ;)

Meh, it's been a long time since I was a "real" Iggles fan, even though I (like most everybody else outside of New England) jumped on their bandwagon for the Super Bowl. Once you get past the 'Hawks and the Panthers, everybody else is situational fandom.
Graham Gano, wow! ...
NOT! Go Seahawks and Janikowski! Both QBs did great.

Iggles! Just 1 game behind Dallas and DC. Next week vs DC in Philly, following week @Dallas. Plus, Dallas faces the New Orleans Saints on Thursday. Hah.

Trivia: Average pro career for a QB is 3 years. I know that's what it used to be and maybe still is for RBs, don't know if this is a new stat for QBs but I've never heard it before.

Cowboys defense baffles Brees, Saints in 13-10 victory

Darn.

Trivia: Brees began the game with 4 incompletes, 1st time he's ever done that in the NFL (2001). His 5th toss was complete and he was 18 for 28, 64.3% overall.

Doug Williams apologizes for “insensitive” comments about Reuben Foster

Washington Senior Vice President Doug Williams took a bad situation and made it worse yesterday when he justified the team acquiring linebacker Reuben Foster after the 49ers cut Foster following a domestic violence arrest. Today he tried to make things better.

Yesterday Williams said that plenty of people “have done far worse” than what Foster is accused of doing to a woman in the 49ers’ team hotel, and that compared to some of those worse actions, “this is small potatoes.” Today Williams stepped in front of the media at the team facility and gave a one-minute statement apologizing for those actions.
I'm sad that it's Williams in this position.
“I apologize to the organization, my wife, my mom, my sisters and the six daughters that I have,” he said. “Never in my life could I have stated anything so insensitive as I said. I’m not going to sit here and make excuses because there is no excuse.”
That's about as good as an apology gets.
Williams’ comments were ineloquent, but it’s unclear why Williams is the one being put out to talk publicly about the team’s decision to add Foster. Owner Dan Snyder or President Bruce Allen should come forward and explain from the team’s perspective why Foster was worth signing. Williams is taking the heat for the move, but the buck should stop at the top of the organization.
That was my thought.

The story does have one aspect not always present. Foster was accused of domestic violence - and he may have done it, I'm not saying he didn't. But the accuser is the same person who accused him once before and then recanted. Questions include: did the first event happen or not? some people recant because they just don't want to proceed, not because it's not true. why would he stay with someone who falsely accused him in the first instance? But for the time being, a team used to public abuse like the 'Skins might take a chance that Foster is vindicated in this instance and after the dust settles they'll have a top shelf bargain. Yeah, I know - nobody who's involved in of-field violence is ever really a bargain, but still. Worst case, he gets convicted, 'Skins drop him, lose some money, and gets more public abuse. I guess it was a risk that prick Snyder is willing to take.

Thanks, I have not followed the story closely enough to form an opinion on whether Foster is guilty of DA.

The 11-1 Los Angeles Rams have already clinched the NFC West.

Nothing against the Panthers, but the loss to Tampa Bay helps the Seahawks' wildcard hopes. Go:
Seattle > San Francisco
New England (ugh) > Minnesota
Philadelphia > Washington on Monday.

Butt ugly game, can't believe they took it to ot. Backup qb sucked. They may have been looking ahead to the Rams in primetime next week. Kinda hope so.

Eagles just a game back of Dallas for the NFC East, play @Dallas 12/9. A short 6 day break plus travel for Philly vs. a long 10 days for Dallas, ut-oh. Who did that scheduling?

Seattle now leading Minnesota by half a game for the top wildcard spot, everyone else by a game or more.

Steelers are leading the AFC North and the Ravens are in the #2 wildcard spot.

Week 13 picks went 7-9 and are 95-92-4 overall."
