Win 8.1

Unread post by O Really »

So - I've had this laptop about a year - Acer 64, with Win 8.1 Have had no trouble of any sort. Until about a couple of weeks ago it started refusing to boot. I usually leave it on most of the time, but I get the "required to re-boot to make (whatever) work..." messages. Shows the logo, spinning dots, then turns dark gray. Not black, not BSOD, but dark gray. Would sit like that probably forever if I didn't turn it off. I've "fixed" it with system restore, then refreshed, can boot into safe mode, but every time it should do a fresh boot, it dies. Got tired of it. Did a reset. All was well, but it wanted to install 42 Windows Updates. I had to install them or SkyDrive (among other things) wouldn't work properly. Installed them. Still worked. Some updates needed a reboot. Crashed. I got it back with a restore, but what can I do about this? I can't leave it running 24/7 all the time. Well, I could, but eventually it's going to have to boot for something.

Any of you techies had or know about similar issues?
