DOS/Win95/Win98

Unread post by rstrong » Tue Dec 15, 2015 4:33 pm

I just got a phone call, and agreed to troubleshoot a network I installed.

In 1994.

Same machines. Same coax networking cables. Same DOS-based accounting system. Somewhere along the line they upgraded to Windows 95 and 98.

I checked; the network is NOT connected to the internet.

That's funny!
I'm fortunate to work for a firm that has always been very forward-thinking in tech, but a lot of law firms were very slow to take up tech improvements. Why get "word processors"? The senior partners were getting their work done by the "secretaries." Why get WestLaw on line? "Just send the associates into the library like we used to do." etc. There's probably some smaller older firms in small towns that still give live dictation.

Coax, what's that? ;)
When I was a small girl, I dreamt of standing in a room, looking at a girl who was and was not myself, who stood looking at another girl who was and was not myself. My mother took this as a nightmare. I saw it as the beginning of a career in physics.
