Thanks for the info  .

I may try to upgrade again at some point and try the suggestions on that link. I haven't tried those particular steps. Now that I've got an image made of my machine, it won't be as much of a problem.

This seems like some decent imaging software in case anyone is interested: http://www.macrium.com/

I haven't actually tried restoring my machine from an image yet, gonna try that this weekend, so it might actually be terrible. We'll see.
Update: Accidentally updated to Windows 8.1, lost wifi again, followed these instructions and it worked!
Hi Kathleen,

Limited connectivity means the PC has successfully connected to the router, but the PC wasn't assigned a valid IP address, so you can't actually get to the Internet. It can also indicate that a valid IP address was assigned but that the PC doesn't have Internet connectivity.

Please try the below given step it worked for many users facing similar issue in this thread.

Right click on your WIFI connection and click on View Connection Properties.
Click on Security tab.
Click on Advanced settings which opens 802.11 settings.
Check Enable Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance for this network.
Click on OK button.
Reconnect your computer through WIFI and enjoy internet.

Please update if it works for you. If you need further assistance, we will be glad to help you.

Happy Holidays!
You aren't doing it wrong if no one knows what you are doing.
