Growing up in small town New England, my neighborhood was about 70% Catholic/29% Protestant/1% Jewish. Religion was a Big Deal, and I learned to keep my mouth shut about it.

When we moved to San Francisco, however, one of my new elementary school classmates asked me what religion I was. I wouldn't answer, and the questioning got more intense. Finally, I admitted to being Protestant, and the rest of the kids all looked quite bored by my answer. That was the start of my realization is that religion is more of a social or political construct than anything to do with actual faith or identity.

The primary is in March. An incumbent usually benefits from a crowded field, but Paxton has some pretty serious baggage. As awful as Rep Gohmert is, there's no real reason to think that he would be any worse than the uber rotten Paxton or than Bush, a particularly vile member of the Shrubbery. Guzman MIGHT be okay, which means that she stands no chance in a Texas RepuQ primary election.
