Single hurricane thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

They keep straightening the turn to the east. It looks to me like somewhere between Panama City and the Ala Miss line.
Dann, that would be about Pensacola.

Click on the animated forecast. The H currently centered over Colorado doesn't come south enough to push the storm to the east.
Still looks east of you to me, but landfall strengthened to Cat 3.

Looks like it's predicted to turn more easterly. If Billy stays on the west side that bodies well.

Interesting, coincidentally timed 60 Minutes report tonight on FL's coral reefs, their importance in hurricane damage prevention, the amount lost - mostly due to AGW, and efforts to rescue and regenerate them.

Yep, smack in the middle of the cone as a Tropical Depression. We might even get more rain than billy.pilgrim  . Looking like Tampa will be on the dirty side of Cat 3 decreasing to a Cat 1, ugh.

Still a tropical depression when it makes it's way to the WNC.

That'll bring down some trees and powerlines.

Cat 2 when it hits barely west of Tampa Thurs am, high tide at 4 am in the Bay, could be ugly.

Weather bro says 1-2" here, wunderground.com says up to 3" total over 3 days.

Ian will now make landfall as a Cat 3 on Thur, passing SE of Tampa and hitting Orlando and even the FL east coast as a TS. Still aimed right at us as a TD on Sat - now over 3" in Hooterville.

Over 2" of rain total, with most of the rain and wind on Fri. TDs have sustained winds < 39 mph.
https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/sc/greenville

Worse to the south, of course. Weather bro says it could be a Cat 4 when it hits FL.

This is why the Gulf Coast -- especially Florida -- is so vulnerable to hurricanes, storm surge
Hurricane Ian could bring between 5 and 8 feet of storm surge to Tampa Bay.

 Article also includes cool 1" video of Ian from the ISS.

North Port or Cape Coral, FL? The track keeps shifting east, now going out over the Atlantic, but Hooterville remains in the crosshairs, regardless. :wtf:
https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/ ... ricane-ian

My uninformed prediction: Ian restrengthens over the Atlantic and makes GA/SC landfall as a hurricane.

Yep, Tropical Storm Ian rather than Hermine. Up to a Cat 4  , but in theory just a Cat 1 when it strikes in billy.pilgrim's hood. That's the American model. The European model says Tampa gets smacked by a Cat 3....
Maybe I just notice it more, but it feels like the European model is always more correct. This has been going on for years. If so, what aren't they fixing the American model?

High tide 4:34 pm, I think right around landfall of the eye. :(

Maybe still a Cat 1 when it hits Orlando.
7 am article:

"Ian should remain at least Category 4, but could make an extremely rare Category 5 landfall this afternoon."
