blueridgenow.com going out of business?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Digital Subscription FAQ

If it's really going to the digital subscription model I have a feeling they'll be out of business in no time flat.

Interesting......

Will any content continue to be free to non-subscribers? Yes. All advertising content, special sections, forums, 85-26.com and contests will be free. In addition, everyone – even non-subscribers – will be allowed access to five articles per month at no charge.

So they're limiting their online exposure (mostly) to print copy subscribers, since they don't offer anything online that would make it worth paying for. Seems self-defeating to me. What about the advertisers that no longer get as many eyeballs? What about people out of the area that might use the site to help decide if they want to visit or live in the area? What-everrr!

Imaging paying for content and getting Foolgle.

Works if you want an influx of really stupid people. Anyone with at least half a brain who read Foolgle would think twice about moving to the area.

All advertising will still be enabled for free. Yeah, what a thrill.

Henderson County is pretty solidly red, just take a look at some
of the daily poll results. Foolgle should feel pretty much at home.

Idiots. The old forum page is still there, with ads, no less.
I "subscribed" by using the in-law's print subscription information.

A lot of good it did me earlier, when I went on to find out about weather and power outages.

Ditto. Believe it or don't, I actually missed bantering with you.
At least you make some sense when you cut someone down!

The Greenville News and the Asheville C-T, both Gannett newspapers, have had paid online subscription for some time. I really don't see too much of a problem logging on except when you want to read an article in depth.

GN is worse than AC-T in cutting you off. To heck with them; they aren't the only source for news.

I haven't gone anywhere; just enjoying the gun debate.
The old forum page is still at http://forum.blueridgenow.com/

What's funny, you can still log in, and the "newest member" joined Feb 21st. Checked, and there's still a PM to ~V~ in my outbox.
The other papers have subscriptions, but the C-T lets you read the most recent week, and I've been known to pay for past stories when needed for research. The T-N limit of five a month is pretty silly. Hell, I have to check the obits to see which of my customers have passed on.
