Not that TRE45QN is whining the truth about still retained Biden docs, but they were from when he was VP and maybe also a Senator. Being President now would not excuse them.O Really wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 11:20 amTrump's such an idiot. Yeah, but even if Trump knew the distinction and was able to express it he'd still be just using a whudabout defence. If Trump were actually entitled to those documents in his bathroom, and if he had any capable lawyers, they'd write a speech for him to read word for word that cited that "law that was passed". Even when presented with an opportunity to be right and tell the truth, he's wrong and lies.

It's all trump's show, he's running the lawyers.
Just look at the court filing analysis.

National security attorney:Trump Roasted For Making Up A Law 'Out Of Thin Air' About Classified Documents
"This was a law that was passed and signed," the former president said of the nonexistent legislation.
... The former president made the claim during a speech at the conservative Turning Point Action Conference in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Saturday.
While railing against last month’s federal Espionage Act indictment over his handling of classified documents taken from the White House to his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump claimed: “Whatever documents a president decides to take with him, he has the absolute and unquestioned right to do so.”
“This was a law that was passed and signed,” he insisted. “And it couldn’t be more clear.” ...Laurence Tribe
(legal scholar and Harvard University professor emeritus)
@tribelaw
Nope. No such law exists. Period.
GoCubsGo's fervent wish.
His assertions have been repeatedly debunked by legal experts, who noted that the Presidential Records Act Trump has cited in his defense actually states the opposite. The 1978 law requires records created by presidents and vice presidents to be turned over to NARA at the end of their administrations.
Trump has also claimed he could take any documents he wanted because he had a “standing order” to automatically declassify any documents he took from the White House ― a claim that has been contradicted by many high-ranking members of his own administration, the relevant federal agencies and his own comments on a 2021 tape obtained by CNN.

Of all the not true things, this is the not truestNo such law exists. Generally, laws granting rulers “absolute” power aren’t a thing in U.S.Say you’ve never read the Presidential Records Act without saying you’ve never read the Presidential Records ActTHE LAW LITERALLY SAYS 100.00% THE INVERSE OF THIS. Its entire purpose was to do the inverse of what he is saying!

When you have the law on your side, pound the law. When you have the facts on your side, pound the facts. When neither the law nor the facts are on your side, pound the table - or have a meaningless rant to distract from the law and facts.

Today will be an indicator of how much foot dragging will be permitted in Florida.
The federal court in D.C. won't pussyfoot. They've already expedited numerous Jan 6 trials.

Unanimously!Georgia court dismisses Trump attempt to scuttle election probe
Former US President Donald Trump had requested prosecutor Fani Willis be blocked from filing charges against him.
The Georgia Supreme Court has voted unanimously to dismiss a petition from former United States President Donald Trump seeking to halt an inquiry into potential election interference during the 2020 race.
In a five-page opinion released on Monday, the state court rejected Trump’s allegation that his constitutional rights had been trampled.
It was a notably quick decision, arriving three days after Trump’s legal team had issued its petition on Friday to bar Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from filing charges against him.
... The court noted that Trump had not presented “either or the facts of the law necessary” to mandate Willis’s disqualification.
It also found that “no violation of defendant’s constitutional rights and no structural defect in the grand jury process occurred”, leaving no basis to suppress the grand jury’s report....
Try him, lock him up!

Cannon may still prove herself to be an outlier and sickophant but she risks her reputation, legacy and possibly her judicial career.
I've been layman impressed with how thorough and prepared Jack Smith's office seems to be. If Cannon screws the pooch enough it won't surprise me to see a motion to have her removed. She's gotta be aware of the foot stomping she took on her rulings last year and how other jurisdictions are handling things.

Otoh, no foot dragging in:
Washington — U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has set an Aug. 14 start date for former President Donald Trump's trial in the case over his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
In a brief order issued Tuesday, Cannon said the criminal jury trial is set to take place over a two-week period beginning Aug. 14 at the federal district court in Fort Pierce, Florida.

No one believed that a trial could be organized that quickly. Hence, Jack Smith requested a mid-Dec start date.

Election Interference!
Of course I would like the trial to start yesterday, but having it completed before the election is absolutely paramount.

It may not matter. Looks like the other cases will be coming up also. Looks too like none of the cases nor their verdicts will move many cultists. Best bet may be the Jan 6 case and Georgia, with the idea of getting him disqualified.

Trump is actually being treated much better than most ex-leaders who have been imprisoned - some for similar offences.
