Idiot box thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Season 3 starts on 8/8. First two seasons were great. Season 3 adds Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd.

"They’ve faced serial killers, grave robbers, and personal demons aplenty, but our brave and bold true crime podcasters are up against their biggest problem yet in Only Murders in the Building Season 3. Starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, the Hulu original series returns"

No streaming, sorry.

DI Ray is a British police procedural television series created and written by Maya Sondhi and produced by Jed Mercurio. DI Ray stars Parminder Nagra in the title role as a Detective Inspector in a fictitious Birmingham-based police force....

Critical response

... Sean O'Grady for The Independent gave the series four stars out of five, describing the lead character as "a smart, sassy, tough telly detective" and summarising "low key in tone and atmosphere, DI Ray, cop and show, that is, deserves to be a success....

DI Ray is a good one. Along with Hope Street, Midsomer Murders, and most of the Brit collection.
And if you like DI Ray, you'll probably like "Annika."

Haven't seen Hope Street

Add - Grantchester, All Creatures (kinda corny but enjoyable), Morse, Endeavor, Foyles War, Doc Martin, Luther

Currently watching Vera - it took a few episodes but good show,

Death in Paradise for goofy

Likes include normal looking people with scars and crooked teeth in leading roles

Hope Street is in season 2. Try to stream season 1 to get the whole context.

So I can get Dark Winds and Old Man on my YouTube+ ?
-0-? I'm watching both on cable. The blurb I quoted says Dark Winds is available on AMC+. The Old Man probably streams on whoever carries FX.
Dark Winds Season 2 in progress, still gripping still excellent. Tony Hillerman presente!

I'm not sure when Season 2 of The Old Man premieres, but FX has been showing Season 1 reruns. It's also on Hulu. Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow and Amy Brenneman, with Alia Shawkat, rock!

Of course I watched The Dude as the Old Man. I only watched 3 episodes of Dark Winds but wasn't impressed.

This article starts being happy that with streaming, people don't have to do "appointment TV" anymore, forgetting apparently that even with cable/satellite or OTA there really hasn't been any "appointment TV" since everybody got a DVR.

But then it goes on to discuss the time of day streamers release new episodes. If you're happy to be freed from scheduled programs, what difference does it make when shows are released? Or am I missing something here?

I'll give it a look see.
Well, did you check out Righteous Gemstones? My son kept watching Danny McBride until I started watching him. Kristen Johnston from 3rd Rock shows up in season 3.

So far I'm batting Zero watching shows anyone else on brd watches.

I watched 8 or 10 episodes of Ghosts. I liked it and have no idea why I stopped watching.
How did you watch without streaming?

Isn't cost relative to what one's viewing preferences are and absolute cost not so relevant? Real question.
We get DISH for about $75/month, which includes all local channels wherever we are, plus the usual basic cable stations, plus Netflix. From Roku, we get Paramount and Peacock, and occasionally do a month or so on an off channel like Britbox. Getting local channels from an antenna is an off and on deal, depending on where we are. I like local channels/live TV, and I like some streaming services. So aren't my choices somewhat limited by my preferences? Would cord cutting offer a viable choice?

Internet runs $25 - $50, a roku tv or device brings in all the rerun channels you can imagine, a decent antenna cost $25 - a really good one $100 - I paid $60 at Best Buy and get 50+ local channels - most are religious, but all the networks come in clear as cable.
My phone includes Apple for free and Netflix at half price.
Prime and its zillion shows essentially comes for free with shopping.
So, say $$59 or $60/month off football and basketball seasons - we'll be adding Sling this week. $41/mo plus 10 for sec channel.

Maybe it was just my cable company, but this is lots cheaper than our cable was.

Bundled services, it works out. Sufficient channels without the temptation of 24/7 streaming. Broadcast is spotty - mountains in the way and not dense enough population to get more translators.
