Yeah Emmer is no catch particularly, but I just picked hime because he's majority whip. There are probably some backbenchers that are better ans less looney but I think they'd have to start with somebody in leadership. The other approach would be to go hunting for potential flippers in their own but that would be risky.

I think Dems will participate if a group of RepuQs is willing to compromise and put forth a sane and responsible Speaker candidate. Dems may even be able to stomach one of the names being floated, with conditions like you proposed.

I think any scheme has to originate with Repubs, at least publicly, in order to have any chance at all. It's risky enough without it appearing that some Repubs are servants to the Dems. Whether Dems have privately proposed an acceptable list, . Maybe not since it would be a death sentence, metaphorical or literal, for any named or cooperating Repubs if it were ever revealed.
