The Global Warming thread.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Washington state youth sue government over climate change

I'd guess that their legal position is tenuous, but their point isn't.

Yesterday we had our first measurable snowfall of the winter here in Winnipeg. It's mostly gone now.

It was the latest first measurable snowfall on record. Record keeping began 144 years ago in 1872.

The last time snow fell this year was 225 days earlier on April 10. The average snow-free period in Winnipeg is 181 days, so the city got six extra weeks without snow this year.

Yes, "weather is not climate." This record by itself doesn't mean anything, just like a harsh winter doesn't disprove global warming. But the trend is there in the long term. We're looking at replacing a lot of ice roads to remote communities with year-round roads, because the ice road season has been getting steadily shorter over time.

We had a normal snap, gonna be back up to 67 today. The fires are still burning and they're saying some may keep doing so until the March rains.

It was unique, though.
Watch record-breaking Hurricane Otto transit Central America, eye intact

Image

Otto, the latest hurricane on record to form in the Caribbean, roared across Central America, battering southern Nicaragua and northern Costa Rica on Thanksgiving Day.

The Associated Press reports the storm damaged homes in Nicaragua and killed at least four people in Costa Rica when it unloaded a month’s worth of rainfall in just a few hours.

Otto became the strongest hurricane on record so late in the year in the tropical Atlantic basin when its peak winds leapt from 75 mph to 110 mph Wednesday to Thursday.

Its landfall location near San Juan de Nicaragua, Nicaragua (just before 1 p.m. Thursday), was the farthest south on record in Central America.

Then, Otto became one of only four storms since 1950 to cross over from the tropical Atlantic to the tropical Pacific and remain a tropical cyclone, according to Capital Weather Gang tropical weather specialist Phil Klotzbach....

Great link for crazy year

It was also the warmest November since record keeping began.

If you saw the Hallmark Christmas film "A Dream of Christmas" on TV Saturday night, that was filmed here in Winnipeg in November.

All the snow is fake.

Vancouver and Toronto get all the great film shoots. Winnipeg gets Hallmark Christmas and "An American Girl" film shoots. And any film set in Chicago.

Just as happened after 1998, the last strong El Nino year, the moronic deniers are claiming the GW has stopped. This time Liarbart is leading the way. The Weather Channel has just called them out for being both wrong and dishonest.
