Guns, race, religion, terror, wingnut thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Some people argue the media attention and national outrage at the Charlottesville rallies are way out of proportion for such a small event. The argument they use can be boiled down to a case of "what-about-ism". Example: "You've got Islamists running over crowds of people in Europe, terrorists killing people, etc, and all the media can focus on is a small gathering of white-supremacists in Charlotesville."

This is really irksome, because it implies that because there's always bigger fish to fry, we should completely ignore bad stuff happening on our home turf. You see this type of argument a lot.
You aren't doing it wrong if no one knows what you are doing.

If we're not to worry about rightwing domestic terrorism, then we shouldn't worry about domestic terrorism at all since rightwing is most of it. I doubt those people would make that case. That said, our "normal" tally of killings by guns does exceed the terrorist tally by tens of thousands each year.

CBC: Trump a 'stunningly effective president,' says Newt Gingrich

This was to be expected. He persecuted Bill Clinton for having an affair while all the while he himself was having one. And now here he is giving President Trump a blowjob.

Asheville Regional Airport in North Carolina

bomb was meant to cause multiple deaths:

In fact, sharp nails and bullets were found in this improvised explosive device.

Is this real? First I've heard.

What, no 24/7?
I guess the tens seconds of coverage about millions of Americans drinking toxic water took precedence.

But nothing like if he had been a Muslim. More details:

Complaint: Airport bomb suspect wanted 'to fight a war on US soil'

It doesn't say what kind of "war" Michael Christopher Estes wanted, but I feel pretty comfortable adding him to my list, reposted here for your debates with Islamophobes and reichwingers.

You left out trump and I didn't see this guy

Mr. PoS Harpham tried to blow up little black children at a parade.

the FBI arrested Kevin William Harpham, 36, of Addy, Washington, in connection with the bombing attempt. Harpham allegedly had ties to the National Alliance, a white supremacist organization

Thanks, it was there but for some reason without the name. I've now changed the entry here and on my own list to read:

White Nationalists Are a Bigger Threat to America Than ISIS In Iraq and Syria, U.S. Troops Say

From the same poll:
Military Times Poll: What you really think about Trump

Overall, about 44 percent of all troops surveyed in the Military Times poll have a favorable view of Trump, while roughly 40 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him.
Then, there's the opinion of the soldiers that are best educated, most dedicated and most knowledgeable about military matters:
Enlisted service members are much more enamored with the president than officers. Almost half of all enlisted troops who responded to the survey said they have a favorable view of Trump. Among officers, it was less than one in three.

More than 53 percent of officers said they had an unfavorable view of the president.

I'm sure the media will jump all over this. After all, more Americans were killed in this terror attract than on the silly liberal new York city bike path and we generally only count Americans.

A white man walked into a Walmart in Colorado yesterday and opened fire on customers. After killing three, he returned to his car and left.

The Latest: Trump says NYC suspect should get death penalty

Dolt .45 does everything he can to taint the jury pool and thus make prosecution more difficult. He must be a terrorist sympathizer.

A while back, when Dylan Roof shot up that church, my family and I had a discussion.

"Why can't they just execute him? They know he did it? Why do they have to bother with the courts? Why couldn't the cops have just shot him in the back of the head right there?" They asked. They viewed Dylan Roof being entitled to a trial as evidence of corruption in our justice system!

Americans are totally cool with this kind of thing. They have no idea how the justice system works, and would totally be cool, if not over joyed, to put that kind of power in the hands of the police. Some Judge Dredd level stuff.

Back in the '80s and '90s we had a series of high-profile cases where someone was proven innocent after a decade or more of jail, having been railroaded by police. Railroaded because the police *knew* the guy was guilty.

I'm not advocating immediate street execution, but it does seem to me there ought to be a difference in those who are caught after the fact and those who are caught in the act. Trump's unexcusable yapping about the NYC truck driver "should be executed" might be seen as affecting his ability to get a fair trial, but he still did what he did in front of a bunch of people and cameras and was caught exiting the truck he drove through the crowd. Hard to ignore that no matter what Trump says.

Having said that, I wonder if the driver would be dead if he had just had been a black guy with a simple traffic accident and got out of his truck looking like he had guns.

 Wingnut pansies.

From the article

"Some websites are telling their readers that antifa groups are “planning to kill every single Trump voter, Conservative and gun owner” this weekend. Hundreds of Facebook posts show how seriously consumers of such media are taking the news, and comments like “One more threat against white people and I swear to God I’m going to take a goddamn car and run over every fucking one of them” are not unrepresentative of the response."
