Trump's lawyer: I wrote the president's 'sloppy' tweet about Flynn's dismissal
The lawyer is obviously lying in a desperate attempt to protect Dolt .45. The lawyer's supposed authorship is very unlikely since he knows the law. Otoh, Dolt .45 authorship is admission of criminal obstruction with the firing of Comey. There is zero indication over the past 2 years that Dolt .45 has ever had any adult assistance or supervision with his tweets.

PBS Frontline last night featured Putin. Clear to all that Trump models after him, but it was especially interesting that when Putin took office, he vowed to strengthen the country using a slogan of "Make Russia Great Again."

Lately no misspellings and dot, dot, dots.

FBI investigating whether Russian money went to NRA to help Trump
Tell the Senate Judiciary Committee:
"Conduct a full investigation into the allegations that the NRA helped funnel Russian money into the 2016 U.S. elections."

As per usual. With their own guy in power, they have to look elsewhere for conspiracies to blame. Right-wingnuts under the Bush II administration brought us a firehose of North American Union, Amero, SPP, NAFTA Superhighway, 9/11, FEMA Death Camp and Martial Law wingnuttery. Including on a daily basis from WorldNetDaily, the Breitbart of the time, and InfoWars, the InfoWars of the time.
It was a North American Union claim from Uriah Heep on the old forum - which showed up in a Google search for something else - that brought me to the forum.

What's up with Trey Gowdy? He breaks with Trump on the memo and supports Mueller, says he's not seeking re-election, says he's been a lousy politician and says just because he doesn't agree with someone doesn't mean they're bad.
His behavior has been really weird, kind of unexpected.

Conscience now that it won't be his job to be partisan?
Trying to disguise how awful he was for future career prospects?
Regret over what his team wrought?
Gowdy, key player in Clinton, Trump campaign probes, won’t seek another term

Re: Presidents* Trump & Putin bromance
He may be clearing the board for a run for President in 2020. Distancing himself from any unpopular Trump legislation. Distancing himself from any losses in the 2018 elections. Distancing himself from any Trump childishness and unethical-if-not-illegal orders that will inevitably come from the Trump team as investigators close in.
Remember Chris Christie's hostage face after backing Trump? Or the photo of Mitt Romney's "I just blew it" look sitting with a smiling Trump? Both came begging for positions in the new administration. Both had their reputations destroyed - any future threat neutralized - with a photo op. And then they were cast aside.
Gowdy may simply be minimizing any record of defending Trump, let alone begging him for the support one would expect from a President on the same team. Making sure he doesn't find himself in one of those situations where Republicans are required to take turns praising Trump in front of reporters.

Also, like 20-year Congressman, former Speaker of the House and then-Washington lobbyist Newt Gingrich in 2012, he'll be able to run for President as a Washington outsider. That's important for Republicans.

It won't hurt. Because it was anti-Hillary - which will always be acceptable - rather than pro-Trump. Even when enough Republicans reject Trump, they'll still believe anti-Hillary wingnuttery.

I thought we were discussing the generals. Do you think that distancing themselves from President* Trump will help Republicans in the primaries?

Re: Presidents* Trump & Putin bromance
Of course, if they do it in time. You'll hear a lot of how Trump "wasn't really a Republican." Heck, we heard that about Bush II, used to justify voting Republican in 2008.
The one constant we can depend on Trump for is that no matter how bad his scandals, he'll top them with something that'll make us forget about what came before. So *mostly* it's not about having never supported Trump; it's about not supporting him in his last scandals before leaving office.
Mostly, because the Trump stench is stuck to Christie and probably Romney for life. The reverse is also true: The Republican hatred of Paul Ryan and Mitchell McConnell whipped up by Trump won't go away. The only winners will be those who simply walked away before getting Trump all over them.
This may include Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann.
