Visual arts thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Wow.

Somewhere i have a great collection of photos of Iran. Looks like a great place. Too bad that it often takes crazy religious nuts to overthrow the shit we dump on other countries.

Just learned this on Mysteries at the Museum:
Tattoo machine

History

The predecessor to the tattoo machine was the electric pen invented by Thomas Alva Edison and patented under the title Stencil-Pens in Newark, New Jersey, United States in 1876. It was originally intended to be used as a duplicating device, but in 1891, Samuel O'Reilly discovered that Edison's machine could be modified and used to introduce ink into the skin, and later patented a tube and needle system to provide an ink reservoir....
Edison's electric pen was a commercial flop, but O'Reilly revolutionized tattooing with it.

I feel bad for the live tree or snag that was used to carve Melania. Either way, it must have been a beauty.

Thanks - I wanted to post that owl, but Pinterest always gives me trouble and wants me to sign in, which I don't do, or it shades out the page. Sometimes a "reload and esc" will clear the annoyance, but not always.

Turkey's 'Microangelo' turns tiny objects into artworks

ImageImage

Any guesses what the object is?

Image

Beautiful.

Image

I doubt my hand was ever steady enough. Any guesses what the object is?

... Some of his best-known pieces include a scene from the movie "Pulp Fiction" on the side of a piece of popcorn and the silhouette of Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk on a grain of rice....

"It is a blend of experience and hand discipline. I can work on a single object for up to six months." ...
I would never buy mini-art, but still :-|| .

Melania Trump Statue Burned in Her Hometown in Slovenia: 'I Want to Know Why,' Artist Says
While the man behind the statue expressed his dismay, Trump critics mocked the destruction on social media, writing: "I DON'T REALLY CARE DO U?"

 The statue was so awful that it could either be a Melania fan or hater that burned it.

The statue was a true universal victim; the cat fan would be jealous. Meanwhile, the cat fan likely enjoys being victimized by those who support removing statues of people who fought against the United States. He considers those people "sick" but thinks the statues aren't.

Nutcase "artist Jon McNaughton, known for his over-the-top portraits of President Donald Trump, is out with a new work showing historical figures gathered around the president while he prays. And it’s brought out Twitter’s art critics.

The image, titled “Legacy of Hope,” depicts people such as former presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as well as Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass and Robert E. Lee standing around Trump, some with a hand on his shoulders. In a video explaining the piece, McNaughton said that he was inspired by an image of people like “Diamond and Silk” and televangelist Paula White praying over Trump in the Oval Office."

Comments are great.
