Re: Animals
I happened to see this story and thought it remarkable; deer hunter is killed by the deer he just shot. Go Animals.

Arkansas is not a "Stand Your Ground" state, but since it was the deer's "home" the Castle doctrine applies.
Comments:
The deer was later arrested by game and fish for not having a hunting permit.
Did the deer bait the field with cold beer and pizza?
The deer left the scene carrying the hunter's rifle.
... The deer claimed self defense.
The deer then fled over the next hill and was shot at by another hunter. Playing dead, he is waiting on the other hunter with a knowing smile on his face.
I used to say that hunting wasn't a sport because the deer couldn't fight back... There goes that.

Monkeys bailing out of trees into the Silver River.
https://www.wmcactionnews5.com/news/nat ... ker-trees/
For non-Florida people, Silver Springs State Park in Ocala has a large population of monkeys, easily viewed from the river, and sometimes walking through the woods. Interesting story how they got there. Way back in the day, Silver Springs was one of the big Florida tourist attractions and some guy thought it would be good to have a few monkeys in the wild. His plan was to set up their habitat on an island, where they would be naturally confined since monkeys can't swim. Or not. Turns out these monkeys swam very well, and were heading for the shore before the guy even got back. They were never able to catch them - or maybe didn't try very hard - anyway there's a 300 or so size colony there. Almost a real-life Jurassic Park type story except nobody gets eaten.

Cool; it also reminds me of all the people that have left the trump administration since it started. They don't all jump at the same time, but a lot of them jump and none of them look back once they've jumped.

Re: Animals
The other day I got a couple books from the library here in town; one of them, "The Outlaw Ocean" by Ian Urbina, has a chapter about an outfit called Sea Shepherd; it was founded by Paul Watson who was a former Greepeace activist; Greenpeace kicked him out of the organization saying he was too radical. Sea Shepherd was started in 77 and its benefactors include Mick Jagger, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Penn, Uma Thurman, Ed Norton, and Martin Sheen. Anyway, this one part of the book details how Sea Shepherd tailed and chased a Nigerian flagged fishing boat, Thunder, for over three months to discourage them from illegally fishing for toothfish (marketed as Chilean sea bass) in the Antarctic. The captain of the Thunder eventually scuttled his own ship rather than have any evidence of their actions be discovered. The Sea Shepherd boat, Bob Barker, took the crew on board.

Act Now on New Bill to Restore Crucial Protections to At-Risk Species
In August, the US Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service finalized three regulatory changes to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) that drastically undermine this crucial conservation law. Urge your members of Congress to cosponsor the PAW and FIN Conservation Act (H.R. 4348/S. 2491).

Pretty cool story about a determined cat; he's insubordinate, incorrigible, and a repeat offender. This cat deserves respect.

One of the towns on the bay near where I grew up is the self proclaimed "Weakfish Capitol of the World."
I don't think a weakfish has been caught there in well over a decade.
The same people that were pulling in and taking home 10+ fish can't seem to figure out what happened to the weakfish and why the bay is so dead.

Yeah, this petition is about overfishing, which is something the Department of Commerce can regulate and enforce. Sadly, the Chesapeake Bay is also under enormous pressure from "the runoff of residential, farm and industrial waste throughout the watershed."
