"Buyout" Auburn is a poseur compared to:
Sources: Raiders firings of Josh McDaniels, GM to cost nearly $85M

... The costs didn't stop there for the Raiders, who also reworked the contracts of interim head coach Antonio Pierce and interim GM Champ Kelly....

Pierce will become the 12th different person to coach a game for the Raiders over the past 20 seasons, including interim coaches -- the most of any NFL franchise over that span. Pierce will be the eighth coach, interim or regular, for the Raiders since Davis took over control of the team after the death of his father, Al Davis, is October 2011. Pierce follows McDaniels, Rich Bisaccia, Jon Gruden, Jack Del Rio, Tony Sparano, Dennis Allen and Hue Jackson.

The instability unsurprisingly has come with a price -- aside from the financial one -- to Davis. The Raiders have not won a division title since 2002, tied with the Jets for the NFL's third-longest active drought, behind only the Browns (1989) and Lions (1993)....
Will Pierce be retained and will he be given longer than 1.5 years to prove himself?

Will Freeze last if WDE also sucks next year?

For a league designed with parity in mind it's sort of amazing how some teams can consistently suck.

Yep. :(
Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa shoulders blame for loss to Chiefs

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa took responsibility for how Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs ended, as the team's attempted comeback from a 21-point deficit fell short in the final minute.
Honorable.
... The Dolphins haven't beaten a team with a winning record since Week 3 of the 2022 season; the combined record of the opponents they have beaten in their six wins this season is 11-27....

Dobbs rallies Vikings to 31-28 victory over the Falcons 5 days after being acquired in a trade

Joshua Dobbs threw two touchdown passes, including a go-ahead 6-yarder to Brandon Powell with 22 seconds remaining, and also ran for a score five days after being acquired in a trade to help rally the Minnesota Vikings past the Atlanta Falcons 31-28 on Sunday for their fourth straight win.

Minnesota (5-4) overcame the loss of rookie quarterback Jaren Hall to a concussion in the first quarter.

Dobbs led the go-ahead drive after Tyler Allgeier’s 5-yard scoring run gave Atlanta the lead with 2:08 remaining.

Dobbs was acquired from the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday. The 28-year-old Dobbs started all eight games for the Cardinals as a fill-in while Kyler Murray recovers from a knee injury. Murray’s imminent return made Dobbs available for a trade.

Dobbs made his case to keep the starting job for Minnesota. He completed 20 of 30 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns and had seven carries for 66 yards and another score....

Dobbs had his first practice with the Vikings on Wednesday, leaving little preparation time. His first series of plays began at the Minnesota 7 and ended with a third down sack by Calais Campbell in the end zone for a safety early in the second quarter. The sack gave Atlanta a 5-3 lead....
Nice trade.

Bears RB gets big fine from NFL for bizarre reason

...

Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports said the league took issue with Foreman lowering his head just before making contact with the defender. That would be consistent with previous NFL discipline, as Steelers running back Jaylen Warren was in the same situation last week.

No penalty was called during the game, and no one was suggesting there should have been one, either. Regardless, the NFL is very serious about contact like that, fairly or not.

Most would probably take offense to the size of the fine, which is one of the higher amounts the league can hand down. Players have received smaller fines this season for things that most would agree are much worse than this.
I agree, shoulda been $43,708 tops

Same link:
Trending slideshow: The most overpaid & underpaid players at every NFL position

Underpaid quarterback: Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
The last overall pick from the 2022 draft is a remarkable 10-2 over his first 12 regular season starts, leading the 49ers as an uber-efficient passer. The Iowa State alum is also a huge bargain for his team, with a cap hit of less than $900,000 in 2023.
 "Mr Irrelevant"
Overpaid quarterback: Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns
Watson signed a record-breaking five-year, $230 million guaranteed contract with the Browns in 2022. Since that time, he's struggled when he hasn't been suspended or injured. Watson's cap hit is over $19 million in 2023, the 10th highest at the quarterback position.
 It's criminal ;)
Overpaid safety: Jamal Adams, Seattle Seahawks
The oft-injured Adams was lost in Week 1 last season due to a quad injury, and has tallied only three games through Week 7 this year. The former Pro Bowler's cap hit remains hefty at nearly $11.5 million.

Overpaid tight end: Will Dissly, Seattle Seahawks
It's still unclear how Dissly drew such a large contract from the Seahawks, as he's never gained 400 yards receiving in a season. His cap hit of about $9.2 million this season hasn't been money well spent, with six catches over his first five games.
Helluva blocker? :headscratch: Ouch x 2.
Overpaid offensive guard: Cody Whitehair, Chicago Bears
Whitehair has had a tough time for the Bears this season after missing time to injury last season. The former Pro Bowler is making a large sum from the Bears, however, with a cap hit of $14.1 million this season.

Overpaid inside linebacker: Tremaine Edmunds, Chicago Bears
After five productive seasons in Buffalo, Edmunds was rewarded with a massive deal in Chicago this year. His play hasn't quite been up to his old standards, and Edmunds' cap hit of nearly $14.7 million in third highest among inside linebackers.
OUCH.
Overpaid defensive end: Emmanuel Ogbah, Miami Dolphins
Ogbah had back-to-back nine-sack seasons with Miami in 2020-2021 but hasn't played at that same level over the last two years. He played only nine games last year and has 2.5 sacks over seven games this year. Still, Ogbah's cap hit is nearly $17.2 million for the Dolphins.
Ugh.
Underpaid defensive tackle: Jalen Carter, Philadelphia Eagles
Carter's play has been as advertised as the ninth overall pick in the 2023 draft, dominating as an interior pass rusher with 3.5 sacks in his first six games. His cap hit is still sizeable at nearly $4 million, but a bargain considering how well he's played.
Bummer.
Overpaid center: Ryan Jensen, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
An extremely reliable center for the Bucs before last season, Jensen suffered a knee injury before Week 1 in 2022 and hurried back to play in the playoffs. Jensen had a setback that ended his 2023 season before it began, but his cap hit is among the top centers in the NFL at more than $5.9 million.

Underpaid safety: Antoine Winfield Jr., Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Winfield has been a key playmaker since the Bucs drafted him in 2020, making the Pro Bowl in 2021. He has two sacks and three forced fumbles in seven games this season, but his cap hit is very reasonable at about $2.1 million.
:problem: Winfield Jr could panhandle Jensen.

More at the link . . . and the Ravens are juuust right ;)

Nice trade.
Now:
Vikings QB Joshua Dobbs to start Sunday against Saints

Sunday was for celebrating. On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings began charting a path forward in the wake of their improbable 31-28 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Joshua Dobbs will start the team's Week 10 game against the New Orleans Saints, coach Kevin O'Connell said, with veteran Sean Mannion as the likeliest backup. Rookie Jaren Hall, whose first-quarter concussion Sunday opened the door for Dobbs to play just five days after the Vikings acquired him, is in concussion protocol.

And after spending last week preparing Hall for his first career start, while at the same time assimilating Dobbs into the offensive scheme, O'Connell said it was highly unlikely the team would try to sign another new quarterback this week....
Good for Dobbs, but if he does well it sure sucks for Hall, big rookie break killed in less than one quarter. I guess BYU Mormon prayers don't work.
... Dobbs, who majored in aerospace engineering at the University of Tennessee and has done two externships with NASA during his NFL career, was congratulated on social media by NASA's Glenn Research Center on Monday.

:D I wonder if there's hard evidence that the concussion protocol is working or if it's all for show. If the risk has not changed, what then?
Because the NFL is so transparent? :o
Exactly :(

NFL Standings 2023

Fins leading the AFC East by a game, Go O Really Go. Anybody but the last place Pats is good with me.
Ravens leading the AFC North by 1.5 games. SB!
Jags leading the AFC South by 2 games
KC leading the AFC West by 2.5 games :puke-left:
Eagles leading the NFC East by 2.5 games  Go O Really Go
Lions leading the NFC North by 1.5 games  GOGoCubsGoGO. Sorry about the last place Bears.
Saints leading the NFC South by a game. If not the last place Panthers, fine with me.
49ers and Seahawks tied for the NFC West. I slightly favor the Seahawks, but like the 49ers, too.
