Education thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Have Texans always been this crazy, or is this more trump fallout? Way back in the day I lived in San Antonio for a while, and given my work in politics and culture at the time, I found a bit of an "us and them" environment, but for the most part residents didn't seem to drool. The city had two newspapers at the time, "The Light" that was a total right-wing rag and the "Express" that was more mainstream. I checked and the "Express" survived to now, while "The Light" ran its last in 1993. More recently (10 years?) I did some work for one of the Dallas-based airlines and spent a good bit of time there, met a lot of people who didn't drool and found it a pretty nice place to be.

But maybe I was just insulated. Maybe the moon-barking droolers were always just hiding behind the next piece of tumbleweed. In any case, it looks like there's a bunch of crazies down there now that keep electing the worst of the bunch and then defending their cruelty, inhumanity and sheer stupidity.

I read yesterday that Oklahoma is fully funding one of these church schools.

Details
... the opponents of all this, including Oklahoma's own attorney general, who is a Republican, are arguing for separation. Essentially, they say separation of church and state means the new school shouldn't even exist. Regardless, there is sure to be a yearslong legal fight over all of this, and it could end up again in the conservative U.S. Supreme Court....
NO to state-funded xtian madrassas, whether something new like this or the existing scholarships, parent rebates and subsidies.

I liked the part where the kid yells "get it closer" when she was acting like she was burning the holy spirit. I was that kid....I knew the holy spirit would bust just like the happiness busted. What a bunch of shit. But that one kid should advance to the next grade.

Cons abusing kids, again:

'Don't take videos of other people's children': Parents furious after right-wingers post bogus 'grooming' video

As always, it's the RW bigots that are sexualizing children. Creeps. Ironic that this happened in Charlottesville, Virginia. One would think the christofascists would be more circumspect there.

My mum would be proud rest her soul. Her undergrad alma mater, American University, was at the top of the list of "most liberal universities in the US. West Chester University, where my dad worked as a psychologist for several years was #14. UNC not UM made the list nor did any other BRD regulars as far as I know.

This looks like the list you used:
https://www.niche.com/colleges/search/m ... -colleges/
There are others.

#8 - Lady O's University of Washington!
#11 - University of Oregon. I'm just a fan, not an alum.
#16 - Northwestern University. GoCubsGo is a fan, don't know if he's an alum.
#35 - George Washington University. I was born there.
#40 - University of California - Berkeley. My niece is post-grad Econ there.
#46 - University of Southern California. My father was a Sociology prof there.
#77 - Barnard College. My mum was a grad.
#83 - University of California - San Diego. Congrats.
#99 - Loyola University Chicago. GoCubsGo is a fan, doubt he's an alum.

Sorry about UNC.
University of Montana might have made the list decades ago when I was a student, not lately.
Auburn and ETSU got robbed. ;)
Not Boone nor UNCA? :headscratch:

I wonder about the criteria that ranks Tuskegee at #30 on this national list, but has them at #19 on the list for best school in Alabama.

"Most Liberal" and "best" are often quite different, but both lists are certainly subjective.

19th best school in Alabama is pretty bad. :P

Tuskegee ain't much of a school. I was more than a little surprised to see it listed favorably on any list.

And then we have Florida. DeSantis says that Florida shouldn't have to submit to private accreditors to qualify for federal funding. There's much less of a chance of hurting someone's feelings if he gets to assign schools a ranking.

Yeah that would have been the source, but the article I actually saw was an excerpt with only the top 25. I can't effin' believe UNC didn't even make the top 100. Back in my day, when the right wingers referred to it as "Red Hill", when we defied the "speaker ban", when there were pretty much daily protests over something - black rights, the war, whatever, it would have at least made the top 25. I'm glad I haven't given them any money lately, well actually anytime this century.

I feel you, University of Montana was once known as "Berkeley North". I think it even had a ROTC occupation.

SEC refs involved. :P

#7 North Greenville University. The enemy is nigh, Whack9.
#25 Montana Technological University. Butte. I know it's a corporate lapdog, but never knew that it's that con. :puke-left:
#32 The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Future home of Space Force?
#36 Eastern Washington University. Cheney, near O Really's family. :(
#38 The University of Alabama. Finally, something that Auburn is better at. :P
#43 Hillsdale College. Seems that it should be higher. -0-?
#45 Anderson University - South Carolina. Another Whack9 neighbor. :problem:
#54 University of Wyoming. Laramie. That's disappointing, I thought that it was a liberal toehold.
