Do northern cons taste like Canadian bacon?

"presumably"? Do you only eat up US cons (something you're really good at, btw)?

Dunno. The act of eating one's opponents must be one of those American political traditions I'm not familiar with. It might explain the disappearance of all the adults and moderates in the Republican Party.Seth Milner wrote:There's an insult hiding in there somewhere - - -
I don't know any vegans. The concept is a tad ridiculous up here where it might never go above -30 for a month at a time.

GMO Labeling:

A bill that creates a federal labeling standard for foods containing genetically modified ingredients (commonly called GMOs) was signed into law by President Barack Obama today.
“This measure will provide new opportunities for consumers to have access to information about their food,” Katie Hill, a White House spokeswoman, told ABC News.

Hold any applause.
GMO Labeling "Compromise" Is a Cop-Out
Poor reporting by ABC News (and the Associated Press?) to not also mention what the real GMO labeling advocates and the people of states like Big Ag-screwed VT think of it. The article is essentially a White House press release.

Re: The Food Thread
From what I've been reading, the whole "GMO = bad" notion has little scientific backing. Especially given that "GMO" is a rather broad definition. Aren't almost all of our crops technically GMO?

Re: The Food Thread
Not the organic foods.
Not that broad a definition, either species-alien genes have been inserted or they haven't.
The issue with them is that we've gone GMO so fast that we have no clue what the long term effect will be, and some harms have already been identified. For example, one type of GMO makes crops more resistant to pesticides so that more pesticides can be dumped on them. In the case of "Round Up Ready" GMO crops, the consequent loss of milkweed is wiping out the Monarch butterflies.
What if people were more like bees?
Many people are quite concerned with personal health. I'm more worried about environmental impact, including the spread of GMO genes to natural plants and animals. Organic farmers have even been sued for patent violation because their crops were contaminated without their consent by windblown pollen from neighboring GMO crops.
:cussing:
I'm no expert, though. There's lots more at the "GMO Labeling 'Compromise' Is a Cop-Out" link above.
The specific issues here are that consumers should have the right to complete information so that they can then make better choices, and that the Big Brother feds have now stopped that from happening in VT and elsewhere at the behest of Big Ag. If you want to buy products that are accurately labeled GMO, no one is trying to stop you.
