Re: The Food Thread
They have gotten a little better lately, except for a huge settlement over FCRA violations in background checks, but their historical baggage contains many FLSA overtime violations, NLRA labor violations, filthy food and re-furbished fish, and below average wages. They have been working on up-scaling some of their stores and being competitive in pay.

I can't get the link to open. I get this: •Make sure the web address http://seafood.greenpeaceusa.org is correct.Vrede too wrote:Sustainable Seafood Grocery Store Scorecard
My usuals are not ranked, Ingles and the Hooterville Co-op (of course). If I was buying seafood at all and didn't have the Co-op, I might switch to Food Lion.
I'm a bit hinky about buying seafood at grocers anymore. I damn near died a few years ago from some kind of exotic something-or-other I contracted from tainted flounder bought at Safeway. I'll catch my own.

Weird, I checked after posting it. It's not working when clicking on the links from the Greenpeace article, either: 3 Things You Need to Know About the Seafood in Your Grocery Store. Maybe try again later.

I bet the chicken I grill up tastes 10 times better than that fake fancy stuff they charge a ton of money for. And if it doesn't it will after you gulp down a six pack of bud light with me.Seth Milner wrote:Would you like to spend an evening dining here?

I know you guys are all like "get this fool out of here." but I'm going to show you a pic of my chicken, so long as you all promise you're over the age of 18.

I'm sure your chicken is delicious. Except - if you have to chase it with Bud Lite, it's pretty awful. Or if it's not awful, the Bud Lite will ruin it. Either way...JTA wrote:I know you guys are all like "get this fool out of here." but I'm going to show you a pic of my chicken, so long as you all promise you're over the age of 18.

I bet a tub of the Colonel's finest would outshine any of that fancy, syrupy mess that can be found in some of these snob palaces. A mess of wings and thighs on the barbie just can't be beat though!JTA wrote:I bet the chicken I grill up tastes 10 times better than that fake fancy stuff they charge a ton of money for. Not exactly my first choice, but an ice cold Bud Light just ain't the worst you could do.O Really wrote: I'm sure your chicken is delicious. Except - if you have to chase it with Bud Lite, it's pretty awful. Or if it's not awful,

I can (and do ) eat anything, but it's strange that the gluten-free toaster waffles are the cheapest ones at the Co-op. Usually, things catering to special conditions (imaginary or not) are more expensive.

Could be, but usually not when the appeal is to a niche market.
The gluten-free toaster waffles have been cheaper there for a long time. Why make a product that takes more effort and returns less profit? It may be that other gluten-free products are more expensive there, I haven't paid attention.

Since I thought it possible that homerfobe had briefly repressed his obsession with gay male sex in order to comment in this food thread, I opened the post. Silly me.

Surprise, surprise, any topic at all, no matter how innocuous - even waffles! - makes infantile homerfobe fantasize about me in a tu-tu performing multicultural and multi-species fellatio. How many of his invisible posts are still directed at me? What an idiot!
homerfobe missed his calling, with the movies perpetually running in his head he should be making gay and bestiality porn.

Yep, I chose a profession where all of my peers are college educated and some are post-grad, while most are women. Otoh, you chose a career where most of your colleagues have just high school educations and many barely that, and the vast majority of the people you work and bunk with are men. Hmmm.

Re: The Food Thread
agreed
but, I'm having a hard time with the part about American farmers not being able to use ractopamine in hog food if the meat is being shipped to china, but they can use melamine in dog food shipped to the US and lead and other heavy metals on baby toys shipped to the US

Re: The Food Thread
You're really in love with that video aren't you. You've shown that a couple of times before. You keep it in your pictures and documents files for drooling over when you get urges to see those nice manly sailors in their sharp uniforms? It's a shame that you and the other Margaret Drydales look down your noses at us poor 'ol Clampetts out here. Sorry we don't meet your expectations of your snobbery. As for the education levels of the "vast majority" you speak of, just hope that their uneducated skills will never be needed when you and the "vast majority" of sorry asses are worrying about your survival and who will be there to protect you. As for my personal education level, all I can do is laugh at your poor pitiful attempt to appear great in front of your fellow forum members. Tell you what, I'll come get the splinter out of your heel and you come show me how to crank an engine on a nuclear sub.Vrede too wrote:

(p.s. I'll help you out just a bit; I'll show you where the brake, clutch, and gas petal is.)
