I was initially depressed by the map until I realized that it's about POLITICAL intolerance, not other kinds. Given how I feel about Trumpettes, I don't mind that New England, WI and the West Coast are so intolerant.

Homogenous, not that I think it's a great thing.
Mostly rural. Urban is great for some things, but not that great for happiness.
Mostly stable, predictable economies. Not great, but rarely awful.
Flat and treeless is not conducive to my happiness, but to each her/his own.
