2016 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

"Deez Nuts" is (are?) no joke, but some of these other candidates are just pulling your leg.

So, anyone could register any name, say:
Seth Milner wrote:My real name is Seth Miller, we just moved to Oconee County, SC ...

What am I not getting? I don't understand the  and ;)

"I originally registered under my real name, but when I submitted it, the email never came through showing I was approved. I could not re-register as "my name was already in use." So, here's Seth Milner."

Got it! I thought maybe you were in on Sometime Lefty's feeding frenzy. My bad!

FWIW, my real name is Miller. When I was employed, I used a pseudonym to cover my real identity.

Otoh, it could have been me giving Sometime Lefty the idea, and that's why I posted that your "real name is Seth Miller". :P

In a sense, I was a spy, but not a covert one. I was a nosey s.o.b. in investigative journalism. I was not a well-liked person; hence the pseudonym. It's not uncommon for your local TV news reporters to use names that are not real, as generally, they move around a lot. Sometimes they take their false identity with them, or they may opt to use a new name. Fox News is an example.

Also:
... According to a CNN/ORC poll released earlier this month, Bush trails Trump by 17 points among likely Iowa caucus-goers. According to the survey, Bush, with just 5 percent support, is tied for sixth behind Trump (22 percent), retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson (14 percent), Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (9 percent), Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (8 percent), ex-Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina (7 percent) and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (7 percent)....

There's nothing wrong with trying to appeal to minority voters.

billy.pilgrim wrote: If Senator Ted Cruz was only a citizen of Canada and has since denounced that citizenship, is he a man without a country and unlawfully holding a US Senate seat?
He wouldn't be without a country. While he completed the process to formally renounce his citizenship, the Canadian government has the option to reverse it if they later find a problem with it.

And if Cruz doesn't have US citizenship, they'd be required to. Canada and most countries on the planet (the US being the notable exception) have signed a treaty to prevent people from becoming stateless. You can't renounce your citizenship without showing that you have citizenship in another country.

But don't worry. I'm sure the Canadian government will write him a nice letter allowing him to hold public office in a foreign country.

So, if Biden jumps in who will his votes come from?

There's not much difference between him and Hillary ideologically and they have comparable political resumes. Biden's is officially longer, but Hilary has SoS and advising Bill.
Biden is more "common man" while Hilary is more patrician.
Biden, so far, doesn't have the scandals that Hilary does.
Some will vote for Biden because he's not a woman while some will vote for Hilary because she is one.
Biden has a somewhat deserved, somewhat undeserved goofy and loose cannon reputation.

Then, there is Sanders. How many support him because they're true believers and how many because he's not Hilary? If his support is mostly ideological, he gains by Biden's entry. If his support is mostly anti-Hilary, he loses by Biden's entry.

I don't know.

I'll keep supporting Sanders until another actual progressive looks viable . . . or he gets a dementia diagnosis. :D

Here's one opinion and some other interesting analysis:
Elizabeth Warren backers lukewarm on Joe Biden
Leaders of “Run Warren Run” say most of their members are already happy with Sanders.

... “The Warren voters almost to a person went to Bernie Sanders once it was clear she wasn’t running, and we saw that in the polls,” Murray said. “When we asked last month about the likelihood of voting for Joe Biden, we found that two-thirds of those people who said they’d be likely to back him were coming from Clinton’s camp and the remainder were basically evenly split between Sanders and undecided.”

In other words, the conclusion is clear: “It doesn’t seem like he would naturally draw from the Warren voter at this point.”
