Redblacks[/url]" got named in 2013 and there's no racial implication. Makes me think of Sandinistas.

Don't underestimate the ability of some to find racial connotations in anything.
At least it's better than the All Blacks.

Viva.

There was one ethnic controversy with the Redblacks, Big Joe (mascot), but that was a French-English thing and being Canadian they fixed it.

Let's hope they google before making asses of themselves ironically exploiting nonwhites

I wondered.
The Original All Blacks (also known simply as "The Originals") were the first New Zealand national rugby union team to tour outside Australasia.

... the Express and Echo in Devon, reporting after the Originals' match there, referred to "The All Blacks, as they are styled by reason of their sable and unrelieved costume." The new name quickly became popular throughout Britain, though its acceptance into popular culture took longer back home in New Zealand. On 5 March when the team returned home, the Herald acclaimed the "New Zealand Footballers", however, the following day its report of the official function was headed "Return of the All Blacks".
Also apparently nonracial.

This could have been deemed exploitative, but apparently it's alright, perhaps because the team has always been integrated  . I'm glad for it, I think it's sooo cool.
THE HAKA - In the Beginning

Some authorities record the first use of the haka by the New Zealand team as occuring in Britain in 1905/6. Sydney based Kiwi journalist Spiro Zavos however claims the very first New Zealand team, in New South Wales in 1884 "used a Maori war cry to introduce itself to its opponents before each of its matches"....

New Zealand and Tonga stars square off in heated showdown before crunch World Cup game in front of thousands of rowdy fans
The Tongan and New Zealand rugby league teams engage in fierce showdown.
Both teams performed their traditional challenges ahead of the world cup game.
Star forwards Andrew Fifita and Nelson Asofa-Solomona ended up face to face.
The Tongan and New Zealand rugby league teams have engaged in a fierce showdown ahead of their crunch World Cup match.
Both sides performed their traditional challenges – the haka and the sipi tau, respectively – in front of thousands of rowdy fans in Hamilton, New Zealand.
The New Zealand Kiwis performed their haka first, led by captain Adam Blair.
As it came to an end, the teams began marching towards each other and ended up face to face in what was a fiery encounter.
Cronulla Sharks star Andrew Fifita and the Melbourne Storm’s Nelson Asofa-Solomona had their faces pressed against each other before there was a shove and the team’s separated.
The Tongans then responded with their sipi tau fronted by North Queensland Cowboys player Jason Taumalolo.
One of the game’s best forwards, Taumalolo controversially rejected a call-up from the Kiwis to represent the country of his birth.
Despite the game being played in New Zealand, the crowd is a sea of red as Tongan fans outnumbered supporters for the home side.
A spectator at the game told Daily Mail Australia the crowd was 'about 70 per cent' Tongan supporters.
In the end Tonga claimed a victorious win over New Zealand with the result standing at 28-22 by full time.

Meh, they'd look like wimps doing it with all of that protective gear on, anyhow ;) .

Aside: When I started playing football at around 12 or 13 - it didn't work out - my mom was very disappointed to learn that what she had been looking at all of those years were partially athletic cups. I remember being a little scandalized by my randy mother  :D .

Nah, the Snyders have shown themselves to be immune to rationality, or even financial self-interest, for decades. Maybe there's some semi-pro team out there, though, but I suspect that DC Comics already has its own artists and t-shirt infrastructure :( .

We could push the ominous Capital Punishment, instead. Rugby? Pro wrestler? MMA club?

San Diego Padres were last in the NL West last year, at 70-92, only slightly better than the hapless Marlins. Apparently thoughts and prayers aren't sufficient for them, either.

The coronavirus has caused the cancellations and postponements of thousands of sporting events around the world, from archery to rugby to the NHL and many more.
