If they bought the team formerly known as "Redskins" they could call it the "Black-Owned Football Team"
Blackskins? :o Maybe Magic can get to work on that.
Apparently the article's author doesn't consider NASCAR to be major sports or he would have mentioned the team ownership of MJ as well as Brad Daugherty.
I don't consider NASCAR to be a sport ;) . They're billboards with engines.
How Much Does It Cost To Run A Team In NASCAR

... The total outlay for owning a NASCAR team is upwards of $500,000 per week, which equates to more than $15-20 million in annual expenses over the 38-week season.

... A NASCAR racecar that will permit a team to compete at the very highest level with very few to no problems at all could cost a team anywhere between $125,000 and $150,000.

Although this is the estimated cost for one car, imagine having a variety of vehicles throughout the season. One crash, one failure, or one fire, and that car is rendered completely unusable in a competitive setting, necessitating the team’s efforts to prepare another car in time for the next race....

A NASCAR Cup Series vehicle capable of competing at the highest level with little to no issues is expected to cost a team between $200,000 and $400,000+. BK Racing, for example, paid more than $18.1 million to compete in the 2016 season, despite having two full-time cars and one car that appeared in only nine races....
How Much Does It Cost To Own A NASCAR Team?
#1 Hendrick Motorsports is worth around $315M, but that's with 4 cars and drivers.
The least valuable team is worth around $26M.

Pricey, but kind of apples and oranges to compare to other sports team ownership.

Agreed, and probably a pro pickleball team wouldn't count either. However, one could argue that Black ownership in bright-white NASCAR is an even greater accomplishment than in NBA.

Extensive research has found that there is only one white lawyer owner of an NFL team, which certainly seems discriminatory considering how many white lawyers there are in the US and even involved in NFL operations and player representation.

Turns out, the best way to get to own an NFL team is to get your father or husband to own it first.

New York Giants. Maybe if White lawyers were better at team ownership? :P Attorney Affirmative Action is dead.

Why bother becoming a lawyer when uber-wealthy parents or an uber-wealthy MRS Degree is so much easier?

Ownership remains in limbo amid a legal fight to determine which of Pat Bowlen’s kids will become the next controlling owner. Dad, who passed away in 2019 and purchased the club in 1984, had practiced law and worked at his father’s oil company Regent Drilling before co-founding Batoni-Bowlen Enterprises, a real estate and construction business.

Well I don't know how much money it takes to be able to buy a pro team, but part of the problem might be illustrated by noting that there are only 8 American black billionaires and 16 total in the world.
One list, probably similar to your source. Not organized in any order that I can discern.

The (18) Richest Black People in the World

By comparison, the list of all Americans with a net worth of more than $4 billion is huge.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_w ... _net_worth

Among Black Americans only these two top $4 billion:
Robert F. Smith: $8 billion
David Steward: $6 billion

They are followed by:
Jay-Z: $2.5 Billion
Oprah Winfrey: $2.5 billion
Michael Jordan: $2 billion

I guess I'll never understand why people aren't outraged that it's our tax loopholes and dollars that fund the value to these teams, salaries and ticket costs.
There are no free lunches, there are no win / wins, but you can bet your life that if you give a rich man a dollar, he'll use it to steal ten more.

Pro football could easily be self-sustaining. It would likely look more like college ball, with 20 heavyweights, another 20 in and out as a top team and a bunch more out to have fun.

Seriously though. What if we dropped the socialism and tax loopholes and friendly laws that created these closed door sports leagues?

You could still have a nfl, nba, etc (as in college), each with their own rules for membership, (as in college).

College football is a great example of Free Market sports leagues. There are over 200 teams in the 3 (or more?) divisions.
If a rich guy wants to own a team, fine. He can start one.
If a city or town wants to own a team, fine. They can start one
If a few talented current or former wants to own a team, fine. They can start one
Let them compete.

ticket prices for these rich guy sport clubs would drop
Taxes for citizens, including those who don't like sports, drop drop.
It all sounds so liberal progressive to me, that I don't understand why liberal allow these preferential laws that created these Clubs.

11,000 runners DQ'd from Mexico City Marathon, per report

Approximately 11,000 runners at this year's Mexico City Marathon have been disqualified after being found to have cut the course at some point during the 26.2-mile race, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The disqualified runners represented more than one-third of the 30,000-person field that entered the Aug. 27 race.

Marca reported Monday that the runners were disqualified after missing checkpoints that were placed every 5 kilometers. Some runners allegedly used vehicles or public transport to cut the course....

:D Woof.

Guess which team:
"Sell the team, dude. ... Sell it, man,'' he said. "Let someone who actually, like, takes pride in the things they own, own something. There's actually people who give a s--- about the game. Let them do it. Take mommy and daddy's money somewhere else, dork.

"If you're going to be a greedy f---, own it," May said. "There's nothing weaker than being afraid of cameras. ... Do what you're going to do, bro. Whatever, you're a billionaire, they exist, you guys have all this power -- you shouldn't have any because you haven't earned any of it, but anyway, whatever."
:---P
Spoiler:

Oakland Athletics, of course. They even get trashed in the off season. Retiring relief pitcher Trevor May shreds owner John Fisher. Good.

I'm happy that Gwyneth Paltrow won her ski accident trial. I only caught snippets of the reporting and can't say I knew she was in the right, but I felt and hoped that she was.
"I wish you well." - Classy, patronizing or both?
"you skiied into my fucking back." :D

I'd say classy and patronizing both. I generally didn't believe his story from the start. Glad he lost.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s Wild Ski Trial Is Becoming A Stage Musical

... Set to open Dec. 13 at London’s Pleasance Theatre, “Gwyneth Goes Skiing” is billed by theater company Awkward Productions as “a story of love, betrayal, skiing, and (somehow) Christmas.”

Actor Linus Karp stars as Paltrow, while longtime collaborator Joseph Martin portrays Terry Sanderson, the retired optometrist who accused the Oscar winner and Goop founder of crashing into him on the slopes of Utah’s Deer Valley Resort in 2016.

Although the March trial ended in Paltrow’s favor, attendees will serve as the jury and ultimately decide the outcome in its theatrical counterpart.

“She’s the Goop-founding, Door-Sliding, Shakespeare-In-Loving, consciously-uncoupling Hollywood superstar,” a logline on Pleasance Theatre’s website reads. “He’s a retired Optometrist from Utah. In 2016, they went skiing. On the slopes of Deer Valley, their worlds collided, and so did they ― literally. Ouch. Seven years later in 2023, they went to court. Double ouch.” ...

I was today old when I found out there was a professional indoor lacrosse league. Referred to as "box lacrosse" there is a "National Lacrosse League"

San Diego has a team. League games are on ESPN. and today's game had SD beating Calgary 12-9. Very fast-moving game. I think we'll go to a game in person.

Let us know how it is. Duluth, Georgia, 22 miles NE of Atlanta, has a team, the Georgia Swarm. I'm not sure what bug, but would guess mosquitos since the team was first named in Minnesota.

Messi's 2022 WC Argentina shirts sell for $7.8m at auction

Six of the shirts Lionel Messi wore during Argentina's historic 2022 World Cup campaign, including one from their victory over France in the final, sold for $7.8 million at auction on Thursday.

Three bids brought up the eventual selling price of $7.8m -- a total including buyer's premium -- at Sotheby's New York.

The shirts that Messi wore in the first half of six of Argentina's matches in Qatar were brought to auction by tech startup AC Momento and have gone to an anonymous bidder.
 That's a lot of money for half-game sweat stains.
Despite hopes that the lot would reach a record price, the total fell short of the highest price paid for a game-worn jersey at auction, which still stands at the $10.1m spent in September 2022 on Michael Jordan's 1998 NBA Finals Game 1 jersey.

That just edged the $9.28m for Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" (1986) Argentina jersey, which was sold in May 2022....
MJ still rules. Don't cagers change shirts at halftime? Fwiw, I never did.
