The Facebook Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

That being said,

I think there's a fascinating (albeit disturbing) trend of cynicism that spreads throughout social media.

Everything is a conspiracy. There's always some entity pulling the strings behind the scenes (the deep state), always some eternal enemy that needs to be fought and hence requires indefinite mobilization.

I think I read somewhere that the fascist playbook promotes two contradictory facts regarding opponents - the enemy is both weak and inept yet strong and cunning.

People need to have someone or something to blame. They need a concrete foe. An uncaring, unjust, indifferent world is terrifying to them. Bad things cant just happen. They want someone to punish.

Hence Trump tweeting about the "Chinese virus" rather than calling it The coronavirus, which seems to be the name everyone's just kind of gravitated to over the last few weeks. I've literally never heard anyone but Trump refer to it as the China virus.
Well, this disturbing trend of cynicism you rightly call out is very similar to religion; it operates the same way and on the same concepts. And its main theme is cynicism, And its enemy, the devil, is both weak and strong....inept and cunning. The enemy can be anybody, and is.

I strongly believe Facebook is responsible for much of our country's woes. People are goddamn stupid.

My wife plays there. I've given up trying to talk her out of it.

Everyone on Facebook is a strong adherent to FaCtS aNd LoGiC!11! Except the facts and logic they supposedly adhere to is more like "Feelings and emotions!"

My favorite is when dopes try to defend their completely idiotic reasoning by following up with "this is my opinion and I have a right to believe what I want!" Yes. I've seen this many times from many different people.

A surprising number of people that I used to know have completely gone off the deep end thanks to FB. They've burrowed deep into the butt hole of the conspiracy theory community.

Three of the worse events for US history of last century: 1918 pandemic, 1929 depression, 1968 race riots. Trump managed to achieve those all at same time. He is strong, beautiful lone warrior.

You can't buy french fries anymore and BestBuy went bankrupt after saying Happy Holidays.

There's two, do you want more

Sure you can get french fries - https://angelosburgers.com/product/french-fries/

And BestBuy (which is still in business) had major issues not related to "Happy Holidays."

So I'm guessing billy.p is indulging in a bit of "sarcasm."

I also would guess that the "support" of sports provided by people who like that sign consists of clicking their remote and saying "hey Babe, get me a beer."

I looked him up. He's a "Facebook comedian". You should care because why wouldn't you trust a Facebook comedian over people that have studied infectious diseases their entire career?
