RNC video showing violence in 'Biden's America' is actually Barcelona
A Catalonian broadcaster claims the images are from street violence in Spain

The Republican National Convention aired a video meant to paint the George Floyd protests and Black Lives Matter demonstrations as inherently violent, chaotic events, but included a scene from protests in Barcelona, Spain.

A public broadcaster in Catalonia reported that the images in question - of fires burning in the streets - were captured in 2019 in Barcelona. The protests in Spain began after a Spanish court sentenced Catalan separatists to prison.
Lying idiots.
A pair of sisters provides a voice over for the video, offering a dire warning for viewers that "this is a taste of Biden's America" as images of protests play.

"The rioting, the crime. Freedom is at stake now and this is going to be the most important election of our lifetime," they said.

While the voices warn that the images are a look at life under Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, they are in fact - with the exception of the image from Barcelona - a look at conditions in the US under Donald Trump.
:---P
Buzzfeed News independently verified that the questionable image was actually from Barcelona....

Though protests often appear on television and are discussed - particularly by conservative politicians - as though they're all-encompassing events, most protests tend to geographically isolated. They are often limited to just a few blocks of a city or several streets if the protesters are marching.

While looting, arson and violence has happened in isolated incidents at some recent protests, law enforcement agencies have found that in several instances, the destructive behaviour was actually carried out by white supremacists masquerading as protesters....

Between white supremacist infiltrators, "boogaloo boys" looking to bring about the next civil war, and armed ring wing gangs cosplaying as soldiers, there are numerous entities attending protests that wish to see the message behind the demonstrations undermined....
Funny, the RNC video missed that.

Oh sweet baby Jesus...

Saw someone share this article unironically claiming this is the reason nothing gets done in congress.

https://bustatroll.org/2020/03/24/democ ... d-package/
In stunning new findings released by the Dunning-Kruger Institute, Democrats were found to have added provisions to ban the Pledge of Allegiance, into the emergency aid package. The language, added by Pelosi and Schumer, was very clear of its intention:

“The passing of this legislative package will also outlaw the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance in all schools in the United States. This statute will go into effect immediately upon this bill’s passage. Anyone found guilty of reciting the Pledge will be charged with grand heresy, and punished by up to 10 years in a federal penitentiary and a fine of no less than $20,000.”

Republicans Senator Joe Barron slammed the news:

“Democrats bad, Republicans good. It’s really that simple. Everything is simple like that in life.”

The Democrats thought they were sneaky, adding this nonsense into the aid bill. The Republicans were too smart, however, and the foolish Democrat plot was foiled. Republicans are a party of literacy and read they did. They read the bill in its entirety to check for traps like this laid by the Democrats.

It’s also a sad state of affairs that the Democrats would use such a bill, one for emergency relief, to push their leftist communist agenda. Can’t they just stop playing politics for one day and pass a bill for the American people? I guess not. They will never change. They need to be removed and replaced with Republicans that represent the people.
I wanna reply that Dunning Kruger is known for bias. 😀

It's definitely satire, but it's being shared like mad because people are fucking stupid. I gotta hand it to the article using the "Dunning Kruger Institute" as a source 😆😆

Fake rallies in made-for-Putin videos tell Russia's leader how popular he is

... In Volgograd, formerly Stalingrad, where one of the videos was filmed, the crowd joins together after leaving their workplaces and football pitches to flash the torches on their phones at the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Second World War. The clip, shared by local MPs from Mr Putin's United Russia, wrapped up with a strapline across the screen: “We stand with you, Vladimir Vladimirovich!”.

But not long after the video was circulated two teachers from Volgograd said they were tricked into attending. “We thought we were there for Stalingrad, but it turned out we were there for Putin. They apparently felt too embarrassed to tell us,” one said....

Over 11,000 have been detained in less than three weeks all over Russia for taking part in “unsanctioned rallies” but the Kremlin dismissed the protests as “insignificant.”

The protests have pushed some Kremlin officials into action but the pro-Putin videos reflect only a half-hearted attempt to counter the opposition message, Tatyana Stanovaya, a Russia analyst said.

Most of the Putin flashmob videos invited ridicule - and Mr Stanovaya does not see it as a genuine effort to convince anyone other than Mr Putin himself of people’s overwhelming support for him:

“Putin is the main target audience here: his administration will show him the videos to prove that people willingly take to the streets in his support,” she told the Sunday Telegraph.

In Moscow, students of the Kutafin Moscow State University of Law were invited to appear in a clip praising Russia’s coronavirus vaccine only to discover that they were supposed to wave Russian flags and chant verses in Mr Putin’s support.

“It was just absurd: My jaw dropped from how brazen and deceitful it all was,” one of the students who was invited to the filming, told the Telegraph....

“You walk around the university and you see people watching this video: everyone is laughing out loud.” ...
Opps.

NOT REAL NEWS: A look at what didn't happen this week

A roundup of some of the most popular but completely untrue stories and visuals of the week. None of these are legit, even though they were shared widely on social media. The Associated Press checked them out. Here are the facts:

___

House members were not given bonuses in $1.9T COVID bill

CLAIM: The $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill awards a $25 million bonus to members of the House of Representatives....

___

Social media posts misrepresent bill expanding background checks for firearms

CLAIM: Proposed federal gun legislation expanding background checks for firearms would create a “national registration of firearms” and put gun owners in jail for transferring or handing their gun to someone, even if they are in a dangerous situation....
It ain't really wingnuttery without ammosexual wingnuttery.
___

Posts misrepresent CDC study on mask mandates

CLAIM: A new study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that mask mandates have a negligible impact on coronavirus numbers....

___

Apes in San Diego received COVID-19 animal vaccine, not human doses

CLAIM: Great apes at the San Diego Zoo are taking doses of the coronavirus vaccine that could have been used for veterans and senior citizens....
Now that the O Reallys are vaccinated, I would be fine with it if the handful of apes were getting human doses.
___

Article makes false claims about mRNA vaccines and cancer

CLAIM: A study by scientists at Sloan Kettering discovered Messenger RNA inactivates tumor suppressing proteins, meaning that COVID-19 mRNA vaccines can cause cancer....

___

Maricopa County ballots are secured in a vault, not shredded in trash

CLAIM: Shredded ballots found in a Maricopa County dumpster ahead of a Senate audit appear to be votes from the 2020 election....

Yeah, there was a segment on that on local news. Of course, those that believed the original tale aren't going to believe that there is a special gorilla vaccine. Anyway, there are some magnificent gorillas out at the Zoo Safari Park that I'd rather keep around in place of some humans. They could have told the whiners that the gorillas got the vaccine that idiot humans had refused.

 That was partly my point, though I might also argue that ape conservation and restoration is more important than an equal number or lots more of any humans.

More monkeyshines:
Right-wing media has pushed 3 completely false narratives in less than a week

Fox News heavily promoted a false claim that the Biden administration would force Americans to cut their red meat intake by 90%.

The network falsely reported that a migrant shelter was distributing Kamala Harris' book in "welcome packs."

Fox also ran stories inaccurately claiming the Virginia department of education is moving to eliminate advanced math classes in high schools....

Joining in the dogpile of lying stupidity:
The New York Post
Sen. Tom Cotton
Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel
Daily Mail
Donald Trump Jr
Rep. Lauren Boebert

Yet the cult continues to gush in awe. Or at least the cult promoters do.
For example:
House GOP campaign wing reportedly withheld bad Trump polling from lawmakers at retreat

The National Republican Congressional Committee did not share internal polling data that showed former President Donald Trump has weak numbers in key battleground districts at a retreat for House Republicans in April, two people familiar with the presentation told The Washington Post. The NRCC staffers reportedly held back the information even when a member of Congress asked them directly about Trump's support.

The Post later obtained the full polling results, reporting that Trump's unfavorable ratings were 15 points higher than his favorable ones, and nearly twice as many voters had a strongly unfavorable view of him than those who had a strongly favorable one. In those same districts, President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were both more popular than Trump, the Post notes.

It reportedly wasn't the first time this has happened — Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) told colleagues that Republican campaign officials had also glossed over poor Trump polling during a retreat for ranking committee chairs in March, per the Post.

Cheney, you may have heard in recent weeks, is determined to move the GOP away from Trump and she'd likely point to the polling as a reason why, but she's faced a lot of criticism from her colleagues, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who think the party's short-term electoral chances are doomed without the former president leading the charge, and there's no indication their minds will change anytime soon. Read more about Cheney's efforts at The Washington Post.
 for:

Former PINO's weakness
The NRCC lies "even when a member of Congress asked them directly"
Biden and Kamala's popularity
WaPo busting the lie
The similar lie in March
Cheney busting that lie
McCarthy's Trumpette delusion despite their own polling

When it rains, it pours.

This is funny:
Stefanik's rise toward leadership job irks conservatives

Conservatives in and out of Congress are expressing opposition to Rep. Elise Stefanik ’s rise toward House Republicans' No. 3 leadership job, grumbling that's unlikely to derail her but serves notice that the right wing is battling again to affect the party’s future.

House Republicans plan to meet privately next week, probably Wednesday, and seem certain to oust Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., from that top post....

But with the hard right distrustful of Stefanik, owner of one of the House GOP's most moderate voting records, conservatives say forcing her to face a challenge would signal she's not universally accepted and will have to contend with them moving forward.

... she's consistently gotten moderate scores for her voting record: a lifetime 48% from Heritage Action for America and 35% from Club for Growth, a pair of conservative organizations, among the lowest grades for House Republicans.

She voted with Trump 78% of the time when he was president, according to votes tracked by the website fivethirtyeight.com, again one of the lowest marks in the House GOP. That included voting to oppose Trump's signature 2017 tax cuts, his unilateral use of money to build the southern border wall and his withdrawal of troops from Syria....

Cheney, on the other hand, was rated 80% by Heritage Action and 65% by Club for Growth, while voting 93% of the time with Trump.

Cheney is being deposed after voting to impeach Trump for encouraging supporters who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6 and for energetically contesting his false claims that his 2020 election defeat to Biden was fraudulent.

Some Republicans have said that as a party leader, she should have stifled her criticisms of Trump, which they fear are distracting from efforts to recapture the House. Cheney has cast her position as defending the Constitution.
Poor cons. :violin:

Jan. 6 committee to seek criminal charges after Bannon defies subpoena
Trump ally Steve Bannon failed to show up for a deposition before the Jan. 6 select committee on Thursday, paving the way for the House panel to seek criminal charges against him for defying a congressional subpoena.

Why it matters: It's the first major test for how the committee will respond to witnesses' refusal to cooperate, an obstacle that stalled countless Democratic investigations during the Trump era by triggering protracted legal battles.

What they're saying: "Mr. Bannon has declined to cooperate with the Select Committee and is instead hiding behind the former President’s insufficient, blanket, and vague statements regarding privileges he has purported to invoke. We reject his position entirely," committee Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said in a statement.

"The Select Committee will not tolerate defiance of our subpoenas, so we must move forward with proceedings to refer Mr. Bannon for criminal contempt. I’ve notified the Select Committee that we will convene for a business meeting Tuesday evening to vote on adopting a contempt report."
Lock him up!
