Ok, place your bets......trump is now at over 16,000 documented lies in just over three years in office. Anyone care to estimate how many there will be should the raccoon eyed juvenile moron and pathological liar be re elected? Or is there a number that high?

Interesting, in CA-50, the district recently vacated by the disgraced and sleazy Duncan Hunter, the two Republicans fighting each other for the primary win (Issa and DeMaio) have totally given up on attracting any votes other than the hard core Trumpettes. Their ads are nothing other than touting their trumpiness and bashing the other one for lack of trumpiness. No attempt to pick up anybody else. So one has to assume they either believe that all Republicans in their rather large Southern California district are hard core Trumpettes, or that it's fruitless to try to get anybody else and all they care about is getting the nominate (fired by Trumpettes) and hope there are enough hard core Trumpettes to win in the general. And they may be right, running against the Dem candidate Ammar Campa-Najjar. The district covers northeast San Diego County and part of southern Riverside County - all of it mostly rural.

I wonder if "hard core Trumpettes" are starting to regret their election strategies. They can try "political distancing" , but much of their PINO adoration is in ads or other video.

Speaking of hard core Trumpettes:
Roger Stone bought more than 200 fake Facebook accounts, which he used to run ads defending Roger Stone

Roger Stone bought hundreds of fake Facebook pages in 2016, which he used to circulate news articles that would damage his political rivals and, later, to defend himself against charges of Russian collusion, according to newly unsealed FBI records....

Stone, a longtime friend and former top adviser to President Donald Trump, was never found guilty of colluding with Russia but was sentenced to 40 months in prison for lying to Congress and witness intimidation during the probe. He recently said he's "praying" that Trump will pardon him before he begins serving his prison sentence....

In the years that followed, the accounts bought dozens of ads on Facebook to promote stories including Wikileaks' publication of emails stolen from Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta. Later, as Stone himself became a focus of the federal Russia probe, the fake Facebook accounts bought ads defending Stone.

Ads bought by the Facebook pages had titles including "Stone Rebuts Charge of Russian Collusion" and "I am not in touch with Russians..." according to excerpts published in the FBI warrants....

Retired judge to examine if Michael Flynn should be held in contempt, challenge DOJ's bid to drop case

A retired federal judge has been tapped to challenge the Justice Department's bid to abandon the prosecution of Michael Flynn and to address whether the former national security adviser committed perjury after claiming innocence from a crime he had earlier admitted.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan on Wednesday appointed John Gleeson, a former federal judge in New York's Eastern District in Brooklyn, to challenge the Justice Department's motion to dismiss the case against Flynn. Gleeson will also examine whether the parties should be forced to persuade Sullivan that the former adviser to President Donald Trump should not be held in contempt for perjury.

Gleeson's appointment is the first clear indication that Sullivan is considering punishing Flynn for pleading guilty and then reversing course. The retired judge was appointed just a day after Sullivan delayed ruling on the government's request to drop Flynn's case. Sullivan on Tuesday said he will allow outside parties to challenge the government's position....

A key federal appeals court will reexamine case on Michael Flynn's guilty plea

... The new order from 10 members of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit comes a little over a month after a three-judge panel there ordered a lower federal district court judge who is overseeing the case against Flynn to dismiss the prosecution at the Justice Department's request....

The retired Army lieutenant general who famously led chants of "lock her up" about Hillary Clinton during the 2016 Republican National Convention cooperated with Mueller's investigators in the Russia probe. But he later shifted course before a federal judge could issue his final sentence by hiring new attorneys who took a more combative stance questioning the original FBI investigation....

Thursday's order by the court is itself a monumental development. The full panel that will hear the case consists of more judges appointed by Democratic presidents (7) than those appointed by Republicans (3), which could result in a reversal of the three-judge panel's decision to toss out the case....

U.S. agency defends decision to withhold report on Russian claims about Biden's health

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Wednesday defended its decision to withhold circulation of an intelligence report warning that Russia was trying to portray Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden as mentally unstable.

A draft of the report, headlined "Russia Likely to Denigrate Health of US Candidates to Influence 2020 Election," was submitted to the agency's legislative and public affairs office on July 7, according to ABC News, which first reported the matter.

DHS spokesman Alexei Woltornist said the agency held up the memo because it lacked necessary context and evidence. Career DHS officials decided to delay the report's dissemination after acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf asked questions about it, he said....

Russia is 'amplifying' claims of mail-in voter fraud, intel bulletin warns
Bulletin: “Russian malign influence actors” targeted absentee voting process.

Russia has sought to “amplify” concerns over the integrity of U.S. elections by promoting allegations that mail-in voting will lead to widespread fraud, according to an intelligence bulletin obtained by ABC News, again echoing a frequent and unfounded complaint raised by President Donald Trump.

Analysts with the Department of Homeland Security’s intelligence branch issued the warning on Thursday to federal and state law enforcement partners after finding with “high confidence” that “Russian malign influence actors” have targeted the absentee voting process “by spreading disinformation” since at least March.

“Russian state media and proxy websites in mid-August 2020 criticized the integrity of expanded and universal vote-by-mail, claiming ineligible voters could receive ballots due to out-of-date voter rolls, leaving a vast amount of ballots unaccounted for and vulnerable to tampering,” the bulletin notes.

“These websites also alleged that vote-by-mail processes would overburden the U.S. Postal Service and local boards of election,” it continues, “delaying vote tabulation and creating more opportunities for fraud and error.” ...

Top prosecutor on DOJ's investigation of the Russia probe just resigned out of fear of Bill Barr

Federal prosecutor Nora Dannehy has been an important figure in the U.S. Department of Justice, serving as an aide to John Durham in his Russia investigation. But Dannehy, the Hartford Courant reported Friday, has resigned from that probe.

The Courant's Edmund H. Mahony reports that Dannehy, according to her colleagues, is stepping down "at least partly out of concern that the investigative team is being pressed for political reasons to produce a report before its work is done."

Mahony explain "Dannehy, a highly regarded prosecutor who has worked with or for Durham for decades, informed colleagues in the U.S. Attorney's office in New Haven of her resignation from the Department of Justice by e-mail Thursday evening. The short e-mail was a brief farewell message and said nothing about political pressure, her work for Durham or what the Durham team has produced, according to people who received it."

In 2019, Attorney General William Barr hired Durham to investigate the FBI's probe of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election — an investigation of an investigation — and Durham picked Dannehy for his team....

Justice Department must release redacted portions of Mueller report dealing with criminal charges before Election Day, judge rules

The US Department of Justice improperly censored portions of the Mueller report dealing with potential criminal charges and Russia's hacking of the Democratic National Committee, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

In response to a complaint brought by BuzzFeed reporter Jason Leopold, US District Judge Reggie Walton ruled that Attorney General William Barr's department must release the redacted segments — including portions related to the 2016 Trump campaign's interest in DNC emails stolen by Russia — by November 2, a day before the US election.

According to BuzzFeed, the ruling means the Justice Department "will be obliged to unveil at least 15 previously blacked-out pages from volume one of special counsel Robert Mueller's 448-page report" on Russian electoral interference.

In March 2020, the same judge, appointed to the bench by former President George W. Bush, chastised Attorney General Barr for having issued a "distorted" and "misleading" summary of the Mueller report.

In March 2019, Barr falsely claimed that the report had exonerated Donald Trump, asserting that Mueller had found no evidence of coordination between the president's 2016 campaign and Russia. In fact, the report detailed many contacts between the Trump camp and Russian government assets, though the special counsel said those contacts were not enough to demonstrate, beyond a reasonable doubt, that crimes had occurred.
:---P However, a stay from a higher court or Barr just ignoring the order won't surprise me.

... America First Action last Thursday launched an ad called “Pandemic Tax” in Florida, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin as part of a $10 million ad campaign slamming Joe Biden for supporting bad trade deals and arguing that he would raise taxes on “all of us.” But some of the people featured in the ad were actors in stock footage from Russia and Belarus....

This is the fourth time a Trump-affiliated group has used Russian footage in an ad. A digital ad last month released by a fundraising arm of the Trump campaign called on people to “support our troops” but used a stock photo of Russian-made fighter jets and Russian models dressed as soldiers.

Another Trump campaign ad also used footage of a conveyor belt with cardboard boxes saying “MADE IN THE USA” that was created by a Russian photographer and illustrator, and a pre-recorded video at the Republican National Convention used stock footage of a factory in Moscow.

U.S. judge dismisses Trump campaign libel lawsuit against CNN

A U.S. judge on Thursday dismissed a libel lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump's re-election campaign against CNN over a 2019 opinion piece which it said suggested the campaign would be open to Russian interference, according to a court document.

The campaign sued CNN, which is owned by AT&T Inc, in March over the June 13, 2019, piece by Larry Noble, a CNN contributor and former general counsel of the Federal Election Commission.

U.S. District Judge Michael Brown said the campaign had failed to prove the piece was maliciously published.

The Trump campaign's lawsuit objected to a statement in the opinion piece in which Noble referred to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election and said: "The Trump campaign assessed the potential risks and benefits of again seeking Russia's help in 2020 and has decided to leave that option on the table." ...
