Las Vegas just unveiled its new $2.3 billion spherical entertainment venue



... Sphere is said to be the largest LED screen on Earth, at about 580,000 square feet, and has about 1.2 million puck lights. Each light has 48 diodes, a type of semiconductor device, each of which can display up to 256 million colors, according to Sphere Entertainment.

"The Exosphere is more than a screen or a billboard — it is living architecture, and unlike anything that exists anywhere in the world," said Guy Barnett, Sphere Entertainment's senior vice president of brand strategy and creative development.

Additionally, the company says it's the world's largest spherical structure at 516 feet wide and 366 feet tall. It seats 17,600 people, with a 20,000-person standing capacity....

US filmmaker Darren Aronofsky has shared a spectacular glimpse inside the Las Vegas Sphere, ahead of his film's opening there on 6 October.

The Sphere contains the 'largest screen on Earth' and has 160,000 speakers, which will play his film 'Postcard From Earth', which celebrates the natural beauty of the planet....

... Doing the rounds on Twitter right now is a particularly hallucinogenic gif in which two cubes are clearly spinning on the spot. Except they aren't. The shapes are completely static, with the illusion caused by the flashing background....

Needless to say, the trick has sent Twitter users wild (below), with many refusing to believe that the cubes aren't moving at all. Indeed, without focusing on one of the cube's corners (or even with a cursor over it), it's practically impossible not to perceive that the shapes – like our heads – are spinning.

I've got my browser set at 115% but only BRD appears small.

My zoom is website-specific. So, if I zoom in on BRD that setting will persist without affecting the zoom on other sites. Also, on my Apple PowerBook mousepad it's possible to zoom in or out without intending to if I let my fingers linger.

Clever, because of the shape, but not so much optical illusion as bad shadow. A little different light from the front and it would be clear. But I think the "dog" in the upper right looks more like a deer.

You also could have told me the one in the back was a small donkey and I would have believed it.

Opps. I thought the far black dog was really 2 dogs. It's fuzzier on GoCubsGo's copy.
