In Memoriam

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Ah, the music is good enough for me. I have seen Ronnie Hawkins doing "Who Do You Love?" from The Last Waltz. Also Joni Mitchell's part in it. Sure would have been something to have been there.
It will be on basic cable within a month, maybe broadcast.

There's a lot to like about the Japanese.

This isn't one of them.

The article glosses over his AU to community college before Oxford. Big school to cc after 1st year is typically low grades due to excessive partying.

Awwwww...☹

The article didn't mention his health, but I'm guessing this wasn't a big surprise.

Man, that's shocking and sad. Love his music, and nobody puts on a better or more fun concert. One year at JazzFest, we were at his Margaritaville Cafe (I think maybe the second one after Key West). He had already played that day at JazzFest and was there to introduce and promote a girl group named "Evangeline" who were very good, and - as it turned out - to tend bar for a while. I had ordered beers and was surprised to get them handed to me by Jimmy. Wish I had ordered margaritas, but who knew.

Bill Richardson, former New Mexico governor and U.N. ambassador in Clinton administration, dead at 75

US Rep, energy secretary, U.N. ambassador, “undersecretary for thugs”, was the nation’s only Hispanic Governor, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, freed Brittney Griner

One of my favorite all-time pols.

I liked him along with Representative Dennis Kucinich for POTUS in 2008 before Obama won out. Richardson may have been one of the most qualified candidates ever, but he never caught on.

RIP :-|| for a brilliant life.

And Republicans are grateful that the trump hearings will be forgotten for at least a day.

I voted for her in her 1st Senate general, don't recall if I liked her in the primary. Same-same in 2000.

I thought she was too moderate for years, but she had a remarkable career. Rest in Power.

Not quite the same as a resignation would have been. Gavin needs to rush an appointment and the Dems need to loudly dare the sleazy RepuQs to obstruct a Judiciary Committee replacement.

I'd love for Gavin to pick Schiff but I don't know that he'd pick a favorite for 2024, but I think Schiff would be the most effective.

I can't find that we posted about it here :headscratch: , but IIRC Gavin has said that he would appoint a Black woman and that it would not be a declared candidate. This latter qualifier has pissed off Barbara Lee, but I think it's reasonable in a closely contested race. Let the voters decide without the Gov putting his thumb on the scale.

Edit:  You added the tweet while I was composing and Ron Filipkowski and I used the exact same metaphor! Great minds . . .
